Anyone found a review or have one of these new awesome LCD's from NEC? I want one bad and I saw it at my local Fry's for $549.99 and $50 rebate. The specs are awesome. It has that Opticlear screen which is like the Xbrite on Sony's!!! Toms Hardware is getting a review up as soon as posssilbe but I want to know now if any of you have it and what it does in gaming. I want to get it this week.

Well looking at its specs, I wouldn't expect it to be cheap

You have to see that monitor to appreciate it. :D

The Opticlear technology they use (same/similar as/to X-Brite. Brightview, Tru-Brite, etc.) looks absolutely stunning!

BTW, to those looking for it @ FutureShop, you may not want to wait too long if you are looking for it immediately.
For some reason, we got a bunch in, but in Western Canada, there are none on order that i can see, so it'll be a few wks. minimum to get more in, since nearly every store sold out within days. (IOW, grab it while FS still has some left)

That monitor = teh sexiest 19" LCD out there IMO.

xbrite/opticlear= staring into a mirror.

The thing this causes is the very thing that antiglare coatings were invented to prevent.

The specs on this don't seem to be anything special.

Looks like a 6 bit color panel (since they say "More than 16 million collors" instead of 16.7 which would be an 8 bit panel) and while the 8ms switch speed is nice, I will be interested to see how it actually performs. Finally, why the hell can't I get a 19" desktop LCD with 1600x1200 resolution, when laptops have 14" LCD displays with higher rez. That just bugs me.

My guess is that this is more hype than substance, but if it looks good, that in the end is what matters, so I'll keep an open mind and hopefully be pleasantly surprised.

It really does look good in person, and all the monitors i just checked on NEC's site (5 of them) all listed their colours as "Over 16 million" so who knows if that's the terminology they use or if it is 6 bit, but I'd really just like a review to look through fairly soon as I do have it on order from FS, just waiting for them to get them back in stock.

Huh? 6bit would be a mear 262,144 colors; that is a long way from "more than 16 million."

Interpolation causing the rating to be 16.2 million colors. This has been discussed by many lcd reviews.

I will agree that there is some glare, but only if you are in florescent lighting or sunlight...& how many geeks work/play in sunlight :p

I initially really disliked the whole bright LCD screen craze, but now that i've worked on many of them, i really have to say i like it.

I saw one of these monitors the other day and the colors were spectacular--it basically stopped me in my tracks. The only review I could find was one from France (which is of course in French) link">http://www.hardware.fr/articles/534/page5.html</a>
and from what I can make out, the main problem was that the blacks were somewhat washed out because of the OptiClear technology (which tends to brighten the images). Their take on it is that for gamers, it is just about perfect but for graphic artists perhaps not. I am still considering buying this monitor just because the images looked so nice but the other monitor I am considering is the Samsung 913N/915N, which uses the same 8ms panel but appears to have better color rendering. I have not seen this monitor in person, although I would love to compare the two.

Can anyone help me make a decision between the two?

Thanks

Think a few of us are looking for the same thing, as they seem to be the likely choices in that price bracket.

Link

Just boght a Sony 19" HS-Series Digital DisplayspacerSDM-HS95P/S. I didnt notice it when I bought it but it has a 12ms response time.

This is a great monitor and the screen and colors are as sharp as an CRT if not better. There is also no ghosting what so ever!! The best LCD I've seen IMO.

Exactly, I really don't understand this either. Do most of the people have real bad eye sight that they can't see well with 1600x1200 on a 19" monitor. I know for sure that it is not a technology issue as AnnoyedGrunt stated that some laptop screens have higher resolution.

Regarding this NEC technology, I saw one(don't know if it is the same model) at MicroCenter yesterday. What I can say is WOW! It is so nice. I want one. The images and brightness look like a CRT at first, but then I was like...no...it is an LCD. I want one if they have it in 1600 or higher resolution.

I think maybe having a native res of such a high resolution while most gamers won't be able to play at those res's to get good frames, and decreasing it will lower the IQ defeats the point of having such high res LCDs?

Who knows, maybe since Laptops aren't really gaming oriented.

I got just a Hyundai LCD L90D+ and I love it. Its freakin fast in games and has great image quality. Even my friend with his 2070SB Mitsubishi 22" thinks its awesome for a LCD. Im glad I made my purchase. Got my new system from Newegg below as well. all is good.

Yeah, those glass covers are awful and akin to those on cheap RPTV's -i.e. they just increase glare and should only be considered if you can benefit from the physical protection from kids and such.

LOL, it's not a glass cover! It's a brighter/sharper finish.

The funny thing is, as i mentioned myself, i disliked the brighter screens myself for a while, but once you look at them for a bit, you realize how damn gorgeous they are.

I am willing to bet that in a few years, when the brighter screens are selling 50/50 with the matte/dull finish screens, you'll be raving about how great they are.

Once again i will say, if you haven't seen one of these...you shouldn't talk ;)
