Splitting is cool, but anyone who can't calculate a tip in their head sucks at life.

This thread reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry bought his dad a $200 personal organizer that he used solely as a tip calculator. 😀 It was the episode where his dad tried to get Kramer elected as condo board president so he could run things in a sort of puppet regime.

bingo. It amazes me to how many people can't calculate tip, even a simple 10%. And we have this functionality in all our phones... why would I want to PAY to have it on my ipod? And how often do I have my ipod in a restaurant...

mother@#@%@ 14%?!? I usually go by "double the tax" (8.25% here) but i think you get a pass on that one.

1. take your tax, multiply by 2, round up by a dollar or more

2. if group check, add your SUBTOTAL, multiply 1.25

if you cant figure out .25x , the only thing you should be eating is mashed food through a straw

Why would someone need a calculator for this? Let's say you believe ~12% is where it's at.

For $10, that's $1.20. For a $6x check, $1.2x6=$7.2
Round it off to $7.50 or $8.

A 10-year-old could do this in under 3 seconds.

well, 6% Federal, 8% Provincial so 14%...

Wow. Do you even come close to getting your money back in gov't services? We don't even have a state income tax in my state. So we just have the federal income tax and property taxes.

Wow. Do you even come close to getting your money back in gov't services? We don't even have a state income tax in my state. So we just have the federal income tax and property taxes.

Personally? No. But I am sure someone else is getting services. I am only pissed at the waste, I don't mind supporting the less-incomed. And I just heard property tax is going up again... I call myself the 'perceived rich'. And unlike the states, mortgage is not tax deductible.

I tipped more before I worked as a waiter/bartender. The sense of entitlement of people in the food service industry is out of control.

I wasn't worried about their (the waiters) wellbeing, I am worried about my food's 'cleanliness' next time I am there.
