It always annoyed me that I couldn't see the entire directory tree with the 1-pane view in Finder; I had to switch it to the multi-pane view to go to up a directory (I prefer large icons). The trick to overcome that?

See the name of your file or folder at the top of that OS X window? It usually has a small icon right next to it. Command-click the name or title in that title bar and OS X will show you the directory tree that leads down to the item you're looking at.

Also, with Finder activated, go to View in the Menu bar, select Show Path Bar.

Even more convenient! :) Is there a way to make it single-click instead of double?

Not that I know of, but it does support file dropping. The single click would be nice, but they might be trying to prevent stray clicks.

The right click to show the path though is awesome, you can even do it in Quicktime in case you forget the source that you are playing from (I do from time to time since I like to store almost all my videos on my desktop, they start on my macbook.
