I dont really consider myself "hardcore" into gaming.
Been stuck on CS 1.6 / CS:S for awhile now.

Decided to break out of that, time to buy BF2 (looks hot.)

So I waltz into my local Target store. Go over to the games section.
Theres Battlefield 2. $53.98 dollars more in debt. I walk out.

I read the system requirements ( which I usually ignore, I dont mind playing choppy).[/b]

Windows XP (32-bit) with Admin rights
1.7 GHz Intel Celeron D / Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon XP/ Sempron or greater
512 MB of RAM or more
8x or faster CD/DVD drive
2.3 GB free hard drive space or more
Video: DirectX 9.0c compatible
Video card must have 128 MB or more memory and one of the following chipsets:
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 or greater
ATI Radeon 8500 or greater

Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible (Sound Blaster X-Fi series recommended )

So I say to myself (itll run choppy of course), I pop the discs in, disc 1, 2, and then 3.

The game is installed, WOOT im ready to roll ,and get me some headshots. I start the game up. my screen gooes black and then.... now im @ my desktop......

"okay man wtf..." So of course I give it another try (sometimes your pc just takes a dump you know? )..... same thing..... (so I give it another ~8 more tries before I get really heated.)


Im cruisin the EA support website (looking for actual help), I look @ their warranty information. It looks like I can get a replacement copy if I send it back to EA. (NOW IM PISSED). SNAIL MAIL OMGWTF UGH.....


I open a support ticket and explained my situation, how target stores do not except product exchanges for opened games movies dvd's etc. etc. But they will gladly exchange it for the EXACT SAME COPY. WTF NOT HELP MUCH ?

Ceaser D from EA tells me. Send it back, we will replace it for you, and send you back an unopened brand new copy, so that you may get your money back. SOUNDS GOLDEN TO ME, because thats exactly what I want back.

Come to find out if you REALLLLLY cruise their warranty policy ALL games that need to be replaced for reasons other than product defectiveness, YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO A $13.00 NOMINAL FEE FOR PRODUCT REPLACEMENT.... NOMINAL!!!!?!?!?!?!?!!?!

$13.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! omgwtfbbq.

So lets do some math, $53.98 for original copy (cdset so there is more weight)
Subtract shipping costs to send it to EA (plus extra shipping for tracking method)
That is circa 2.00-5.00.
$48.98
Subtract the nominal fee for product replacement $13.00
$35.98
=======
sad gamer loses $ 18.00 FOR A GAME THAT NEVER EVEN RAN.


There is no way to charge me $13.00 because of just business cost, because I didnt even get to create a game profile. the cd-key was only used to install the game, I didnt even hit the internet with it. so its completely still legit.

Not only did EA discriminate against alot of gamers, and overlook alot of game design, and marketing. They are MAKING MONEY OFF OF THESE RETURNS MAN.



I hope someone finds this story hillarious, or sad, or somehow pats me on the back for this b.s

HL2 had same requirements. I played and beat the game.

It has nothing to do with minimum memory requirements.
Its Pixel shading 1.4 requirements. My card is 1.3 (like most users)

Someone stopped reading the system requirements after the first two lines; or didn't know a GF4 440GO with 64MB of RAM isn't an FX 5700 or ATI 8500 with 128MB dedicated video RAM and able to run DX9c.

The fee is there for idiots like him who can't read or troubleshoot

Not like you would waste the effort. Look around yourself, google is filled with crying people just like me. I actually downloade and installed a D3D graphics reducer meant for Geforce4 cards to aid in actually helping the game run (does not work in all instances) much like mine. I also installed latest videodrivers, tried overclocking.

Maybe if you read the system requirements and compared them to your system instead of just glancing at them. Not only does it not meet the memory requrements, but it also doesn't have a good enough chipset - FX 5700 > geforce4 440GO.

EA is going to charge a fee no matter what, and the place you bought it from won't accept it back for good reason.

Hey, keep whining about your own mistake and blaming someon else. Amazingly, millions of people are able to run BF2 without a problem. But you can't run it with your inadequate system and it's EA's fault? 😕

There's some system requirements that have some flexibility, a CPU or even system RAM at times can be run with a system that dosen't quite meet the requirements. My P3 900 laptop with 128MB of RAM and Rage 128 ran many games "requiring" a faster processor or more memory - so yes, you're right it may have run. But you can't "almost" meet DX9c specifications if your card can only do DX8. Ultimately, you're out some money and now know your laptop can't play DX9c games but don't blame EA that you have to pay a nominal fee for your own mistake.

So now you're faulting EA because you think their game should run on systems that don't meet system requirements?

Oh and there are LOTS of games that don't run on unsupported hardware.

lol i think he actually did and he still got screwed over!

heh, i got screwed as well when i tried to install this game. EA is ridiculous, as it will only play with geforce 5700 and above cards. yet call of duty 2 plays on my geforce3 fine at 800x600 low quality.
