Maybe you can call me crazy, but am I the only one who thinks some of the manhole covers in this post are kind of cool?

Swastika /= Nazi

;)

Yeah it's not like the Japanese would ever have anything to do with the Nazis. That would be absurd.

It's a Buddhist symbol long before the Nazis came to be.

lol. they are great. i think we should do that with ours too. but it would probably cost a lot more to cast each one in a different mold like that.

It doesn't matter what it originally meant, it's come to by synonymous with Nazis. It SHOULDN'T be, but remember that 90% of people on this planet are retarded.

If I opened Agentbolt's Hardware store, and decided the sign out front would have a big ol' Swastika, I'd get run out of town on a rail, most likely by the government itself. Regardless of whether it's a harmless symbol in a vacuum, putting one on a manhole cover is weird.

Please don't start this swastika/Buddhism shit again...

But just for the record, Buddhism is one of Japan's primary religions.

No, 90% of Americans are retarded. Ok, that number may be a little low.

Unfortunately, it's very true that people think only of Nazi Germany when they see a swastika. :(

Found a swastika on the inside of a 3,000 year old Chinese mirror. X-rayed the artifact for the Cleveland Museum of Art, they were unaware of it's presence.

Before you all get up in arms, take a closer look at the swastika. It's left facing. The symbol used by the Nazi's is right facing. But make no mistake, Hinduism also included the right facing swastika.

are you saying it is merely two S's? You are NOT thinking of the swastika, that or you can also say the original Buddhist swastika is also just 2 S's.
here's the original swastika, on a Buddhist temple: Buddhist
here is the Nazi swastika: Nazi

looks the same, just reversed in facing direction.
this is the two S's, or the SS symbol, I think you may be referring to: SS
the Lightning Bolt SS pattern. I actually doubt that's what you were referring to, as that is hard to mix up with the Swastika symbol, but maybe you didn't realize the Buddhist symbol was the same but a reverse-image?

oh and as someone else mentioned, the original peaceful symbol actually faced both ways, depending on the culture I believe. I don't really know that much other than the images I've seen of them in use. ;)

thats what i meant. the nazi symbol looks like two S's. its the easiest way to tell the difference between the buddist version and nazis.

There is no difference. The Buddhists use both the right and left facing Swastika's.

Or that the one that the Nazi's use is any different from the one the Hindu/Buddhists use.

i have heard they use both right and left. though i have not seen any pictures. but wouldnt suprise me.

to bad so many see it and think nazi's.
