No there is nothing illegal going on. I've long wanted to pick locks. I just followed some YouTube instrustructions and bingo. Of course it was a crapy lock. I still can't get my front door deadbolt. But still. I fell a bit like MacGyver 🙂

Oh yeah!? Well, I picked something with paper clips but it wasn't a lock.

:Q

What's your job? Just curious cause I noticed that you are in the same time zone as me. I quit my job so I'm up at any hour 🙂

I picked the lock to your mom's heart.

you don't want to know what I did.

a ward type lock is pretty easy to pick, we have these ABUS locks around that companies use on non-high security lockboxes. With just a simple looped end on a paper clip I can open them as fast as with the key.

Neat.

In my experience, padlocks are the easiest to pick, followed by deadbolts and then door knobs. I bought a set of lock picks many years ago and tried them out with little success. Then after getting fleeced by a "locksmith" who wasn't even able to pick my front door locks (he had to drill out the cylinder), I decided to give it another more determined effort. Now I can pick pretty much any lock ANSI grade 2 or below. Grade 1's are a bitch and I've only been able to pick them under ideal conditions (cylinder removed, in the privacy of my room under optimum lighting).

If you want to practice, I would get a cheap grade 3 lock and remove the cylinder and just practice on that until you get the hang of it. Then step up to grades accordingly after you've mastered them.
