You don't get an associates in computer science from a decent school.... A decent school would call it an associates in computer programming. I'm betting he "almost" got it from a paper mill, or flunked out of school.

Ok the spelling errors are bad, but you're just assuming he's been trying to get an AS degree for over 10 years. Not everyone that graduates high school jumps right into college. There's a good chance its a recent enrollment

Yes, I know. I took 2 years off myself.

He hasn't been back to school. Been bouncing from job to job for the last several years, never in one place longer than 6 or 7 months.

i agree. i didnt go to college until 10 years after i grad HS. what if that guy was a couple classes away from the first degree and had a 4.0? could have just dumped a decent employee.

Ok the job hopping is more of a red flag to me that working towards a degree.

He said nearly completed. Past tense. As in, he is not in school.

Put some icing on the cake & give him a little advice on fixing his resume?

I always listed that I was in school for AS, with an anticipated graduation date...

I've always thought of hobbies as a nono on resumes.
I've always listed my IT-related hobbies on resume. It is knowledge & experience that can be applied to the profession. Although I list it under skills stuff. I go into detail about personal experience during interviews which normally impresses the potential employers, that I like to not just do as a profession, but also for fun. So I'm still learning something, even when not working.

i have my wpm on a resume. i just got out of an interview and the guy said he was impressed how many people he interviews who can't actually type.

although, saying you nearly complete an AA is like putting your wow guild name.

Even if he meant that he was currently in school and almost done, it's poor wording. "Currently enrolled" and putting an expected graduation date is 100x better.

But obviously he meant he almost finished and then left, never to return.

Who the F puts hobbies on their resume? I have a hard enough time condensing my resume into 2 pages, I sure as heck don't have room to talk about what I do in my spare time. Hobbies are something that come up during interviews....usually with HR when they don't know what else to ask about.
