Debbra Alexis and a group of Victoria's Secret employees won the fight for higher pay and better hours.
from $9.93/hr to 11.90/hr at the flagship store in NYC.

Their success comes as workers at Wal-Mart (WMT, Fortune 500), Macy's (M, Fortune 500) and fast food chains have yet to see a major change.

and you're not going to see changes at Walmart/McD.

the diff is that Victoria's Secret isnt competing on ultra-low pricing.
a bra/panty set for my gf at the time costs $70 😱

You should see the other one: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/11/n...ed-by-labor-laws-judge-says.html?ref=nyregion

Strippers 1, Club Owners 0.

According to a recent Federal court decision, strippers (at this particular club) are being illegally classified as independent contractors when they are really employees and entitled to be receiving minimum wage.

thought strip clubs was a great racket for owners.
owner gets to casting couch the strippers, and If hired the strippers pay him to work there. 😱

like a male porn star getting paid to have sex w/beautiful women.

11.90/hr? Holy crap. I guess when you live in New York City, even the bottom feeders feel entitled to living like kings.

That's 37% above the fed minimum. Title fail.

LOL...forget that, $11.90 an hour with more consistent hours is a win? I guess she can finally buy that house in the Hamptons she wanted.

If she had spent the time and effort that she put into this "campaign" into improving herself and finding a better job, she would have been far better off. Of course, that not how entitlies (people with entitlement mentality) think. It is also why she will never be truly successful.

In NYC that may as well be $2 an hour. That's a complete fucking joke.

I agree it's very little for the city, but it's also considered a retail job. If you don't like the pay, do something that requires higher skills. I was making $9 as a 16 year old doing clerical some 15 years ago. Do they really want to work everyday to earn the same range?

Not everyone has the mental capacity to go beyond retail jobs. So either we initiate a eugenics program and cull the lower quality offspring just like farmers do when they practice animal husbandry, or we pay a semidecent wage. This way taxpayers are not subsidizing private industry via aid programs to make up the difference in wages and cost of living.

Cannot have it both ways.

#1 Eugenics OR #2 Decent wage.

No! there supposed to get desperate enough to steal, and when they come in our homes we then get to shoot them! No eugenics program required!

This. Would you have sympathy for me if I chose to live on the moon and I was complaining that there were no decent paying jobs and oxygen cost me 90% of my wage.

You seem to fail to understand economics. The cost of living in a city like NY is extreme. A "living wage" there is very likely 2x what it is in most anywhere else. As an educated person that, at one point, had to take a minimum wage position to pull myself out of unemployment, I've seen first hand that it's NOT possible to be self sufficient on the federal minimum wage in an area like SF or NY. And saying "then just move" or "just find a better job" is asinine. People deserve a fair wage, regardless if it's a skilled or menial job. If they don't get it from their employer, they're going to get it from society...

I'm sure she needs that iPhone that she probably has, or that internet/cable package in her apartment that is probably far beyond her means.

But hey, she works for Victoria's Secret. It's their fault she can't have the lavish lifestyle she feels she deserves.

🙄
