Just wondering about this

<< With the V5 placing a nic after it causes problems...saw this reported elsewhere >>

Did you try the V5 in slot 1 or because of the post didnt use it there? If at all possible your vidcard should be in slot 1,of course I fully understand it if the monolith dosent fit there.😉 Anyway if it dose fit and you have not actualy had problems with the nic being "after" the V5 I would try it. I try to read as many V5 posts as I can looking to help myself out and havent heard this before.

Sorry about what happened to your other thread btw....Go figure,LOL

network cards HATE HATE HATE sharing. You NEVER want to share NIC's. Typically, slot1 PCI is the slot that is shared with the AGP. If you do't have the AGP version, then stick the card in PCI slot1.

then stick the NIC in a slot that doesn't share IRQs at all. otherwise you're in for trouble.

again, sorry about that other thread. I don't know why in god's name that..."thing" went ballistic on Dave and I (oh wait, we're both the same person! ROFL!).

I'm surprised it is an issue. Even though the V5 is assigned an IRQ, it doesn't actually make interupt requests.

Ok, I have seen the effects of NIC sharing, how do I get the dang thing off IRQ9 (which is very popular in my box)

Was the previous post removed from the board??

I have my soundcard in pci slot 1...slot 2 is shared with promise controller and my nic is there....the the v5 is lower ok....I will try to move stuff around...

As I said if the slot below the V5 has the nic my computer locks and I saw this posted months ago by someone and so I always placed the nic above the V5 and everything in my Intel system with bx chipset was ok...in amd system once I put the nic in slot below V5...everyhthing locked up.

Thanks for all the advice

Neal
