NE1 ever figure out why the taskbar settings in Win98 sometimes just decides to stop saving customizations?

I've seen it happen on so many computers, including my own several times. It only seems to happen after the OS has been installed and in rigorous use for a few months, and seems to be a corrupted key in the registry or something. I never have Advanced Registry Tracer installed beforehand to see what keys are supposed to change 😀
I decided to forget it after moving beyond 98, but now the PC I'm forced to use at school has a quicklaunch bar with no icons that's sized over the entire taskbar "permanently" saved due to the same bug. You can remove it, add an address bar, resize and move the taskbar all over the place but when you restart it's right back there with the exact same configuration it had before you fixed it.

/EDIT It doesn't save Autohide either (Not that I would use such a flaky feature)
