It also beat the Athlon 1.4 in the secound, and then not so good after that.

It's doing pretty well in the benchmarks, which is good to see.

However the biggest concern will be the pricing - if it's not competitive with the TBird it won't do as well as it could.

Dont worry about the price, because it's Intel, so it's going to be expensive. The 1.2GHz is going for 38,800Yen in Japan, that's $310 USD, ouch. Hopefully it'll drop when it's released here, but if it stays that high, then I'd say screw it and get two 1.4GHz Tbirds for the same money.

Well I can't imagine a 1.2 GHz Tualatin being cheaper than a 1 GHz P3, but a 1.4 GHz TBird is.

Intel has a long way to go before it can compete in a price/performance capacity with AMD.

Wait, isn't that completely backwards in reference to a corporations goals? I'm no expert, but I don't think that any corporation's goals is to be able to sell a product for as cheap as possible. But rather to maximize their profits. Or am I just crazy?

The Tualatin doesn't makes much sense in the desktop market. It makes much more sense in the mobile market and maybe 1U rack servers. Also, does anyone have performance numbers on the 512KB L2 version of the P3M? I would like to know because I'm looking at laptops at the moment

The reason why the Tualatin is priced so highly is b/c Intel DOES NOT want the Tualatin used in desktop systems. They DO NOT want it to take the spotlight. The Pentium 4 is their main desktop CPU so price on it will drop while prices on the Tualatin should stay relatively high.

Too bad there arent any P3-S benchmarks. I'd like to see how the 512kb L2 cache holds up against the P4. Does any site have any P3-S benchmarks?

We have a winner!

There's a reason I'm willing to pay $300 apiece for these processors. Tualatin @ 1.2 GHz dissipates less heat than a Coppermine at 1 GHz. Dualie 1.2's @ 1400 or so should make a fast SMP rig that's quiet as well. Even if after OCing a single Tualatin dissipates 35W, two would be roughly equal to the output of one OC'd TBird/Palomino.

Or, combine one with a Matrox G450, a CALM case, TrueX CD/DVD drives, &amp; SilentDrive enclosures &amp; have a dead silent system.

The possibilities are endless. I've been waiting for this CPU.
