This site is offering the ND-8 hsf by Evercool for a ridiculously low price. Evercool is a major OEM hsf maker who recently decided to get its own piece of the pie. I grabbed one just because its so darn cheap. Anyhoo, the temps of my Athlon XP 1600+ overclocked to 1480mhz, 141mhz FSB, were(and still are I guess) kinda high, 118f-123f under full load running seti 24/7 and gaming. Had a Volcano7 on it at 1st, ran fine temps at 118f-121f. Wanted better, so I got the SK-6 with Delta 38cfm LOUD ass fan. Temps varied between 120f and 123f full load. hmmmmm. Besides the Delta fan driving me insane from the noise, temps were about the same, so I put the Volcano7 back on. Just for fun, decided to try the ND-8. Didnt lap it, nothing, just smeared it with AS2 and installed it. Lo and behold, its running at 114f-116f now..... Only a few degrees cooler, but quite impressive considering the ND-8 is only rated up to 1.3ghz. And for only$8?!?!?! I had expected as much if not more from the SK-6. The ND-8 fan is no where near as noisy as the Delta, even tho it has a 6600rpm (~28cfm)60mm fan on it. Anyone else using this mighty little hsf??

p.s. anybody want to buy a slightly used SK-6 with Delta 38cfm fan?? Only used for it ~36 hrs.

interesting.....

how does the airflow in your case look?? how many fans*???? (*NOT including hs fan and Power supply fan)
what's your case temp on average??

that SK-6 should pull waaayy better temps...... what motherboard are you using?

Case fans: 80mm intake at front, 80mm exhaust at rear. Made a 80mm cutout on top, blowhole, but temps actually rose 2-3f when in use so its disconnected. System temp stays in the 80f-82f range. Yea, I was expecting a LOT better from the SK-6 on my Asus A7V266-E. Maybe too thin\thick with the AS2 paste, not sure, but disappointing none the less.

how are you getting your temp readings?? asus boards can be "high" in their readings......

hmm.... how's the surface on the SK-6?? scratched.... level.... cut?

but i guess whatever works.... could be for the better... you mentioned that the delta was a LOUD ass fan

Yes, using the onboard Asus utility. Even if it is reading high, surprising that the SK-6 was about the same. Surface of SK-6 sure looks smooth and checked against a straight edge ruler seems flat...

Whats the Volcano fan like on the noise front? thats my main concern, power is nothing without control, or something

The Volcano7 uses an 80mm fan. It is thermostatically controlled by a sensor connected to the fan. If case temp gets above ~85f, then fan rpm kicks up to ~5000rpm. 99% of the time, the case temp never gets that hot, so fan stays at ~3400rpm, which means a nice quiet run.
