Yeah, on the Canadian version of their site, i saw the price was pretty decent comparably.

But the catch: It's teh 256 MB version.

Personally, i suspect the 256 MB one will perform very closely to the 512 MB one, but i'd like to see a review to confirm this.

True its only the 256mb one but I can't get a gtx for that price

Does anyone know if any reviews have been done on the 256 vs the 512

No one seems to have the 256MB one yet . . .

But yeah the 256MB one should be pretty similar to 512MB since it's the 48 GB/s worth of bandwidth on the XT that's giving it the high performance with AA/AF, not so much the extra framebuffer (though extra frame buffer would provide a smoother, stutter-free experience)

With the 7800GTX 512 MB & 256 MB cloked the same, there was literally no difference.
Logically, that'd mean the same for the ATi cards, but who knows.

Now in Canada, the cheapest 7800GTX i have seen is $590, meaning that X1800XT is actually a comparable price, but in teh US, you guys have 7800GTXs for only $450.

Why even bother with the X1800XT when the 7800GTX is $60 less?

That makes sense since ATI IS a Canadian company after all so shouldn't it be cheaper in Canada?

The X1800XT is generally a little faster than a (stock) 7800GTX, and does have better AF quality and a lower performance hit from AA/AF. If a 430/1200 256MB GTX is "worth" $450 to someone, ~$500 for the 256MB X1800XT sounds about right. Of course, if you don't think the GTX is worth it at $450, certainly the X1800XT isn't gonna be a good buy either.

But it's going to need to come down further in price to really be an attractive alternative for most people, especially since the 7800GTX seems to be pretty heavily entrenched right now as the 'best' card out there.

Well I live in Canada so I didnt think it was that bad of a deal considering the cards are similar in benchmarks, I might just wait for a review and see how the 256mb stacks up against the 512.

See now that changes what i was saying :D

For us Canadians, this is a great "deal" (if spending $600 on video card could be called a deal :() compared to the 7800GTXs, which are actually nearly all more!
