On the November 15th show of NBC's "Meet The Press" the shows host, David Gregory, stated that Richard Nixon was impeached while president.

The problem?

Nixon was never impeached.

At the 48 minute mark, Gregory mentions "an impeached Richard Nixon"

A brief history lesson will show that only 2 presidents were ever impeached
Democrat Andrew Johnson
Democrat Bill Clinton

Now, are the Liberals at NBC trying to re-write history (a la Dan Rather), are they delusional and think their dreams actually came true, or are they just plain ignorant?

Funny how the official MSNBC transcript has it, it happen on live TV, but the web video on MSNBC has the quote cut out.

The official transcript actually mentions impeachment twice....

Maybe he doesn't know any better. I've seen him on a talk show or two and he doesn't seem too bright imho.

True...but he resigned because the House of Representatives was about to impeach him. Yes they should get their history correct.

Ok, so the guy made a slip up. How exactly is that "unbalanced"?

Nixon was never formally impeached, but the articles of impeachment were approved by the House Judiciary Committee. Because of his resignation, the House voted to &#8220;accept&#8221; the Judiciary committee&#8217;s report, which recommended impeachment, in lieu of a formal vote on the articles of impeachment.

How anyone would ever think to mention Nixon&#8217;s name and the word impeachment together in the same sentence is beyond me.

Equating one mistake on a network with another network that uses false footage and lies on a daily basis= fail.

Mistake - using only the incorrect video footage

Intentional - using both the actual footage and merging it with different footage showing more people.


Anyone who can't see the difference has their head in the sand.

Again. Articles of impeachment against Nixon were approved. The only thing that didn't happen in the process was a vote to formalize them because he resigned before they could. Therefore, stating that Richard Nixon was impeached is not technically accurate, but its certainly not hard to imagine why someone would say it.

But yes, anything that supports your opinion must be true.

It's difficult to ascribe any nefarious intent to this error, since Richard Nixon has absolutely no connection to the modern-day Republican party.

Plus, whether Nixon was or was not actually impeached (let alone convicted) is beside the point: Nixon CLEARLY would have been impeached and convicted (and then indicted and convicted on felony charges) had he not resigned and had Ford not pardoned him.

All in all, this is a pretty benign error.

Yes, he was incorrect. I think it's a common belief among Americans that Richard Nixon was impeached; during Clinton's impeachment, I remember several newscasters and commentators making reference to Richard Nixon. Richard Nixon, though never formally impeached, did have articles of impeachment brought against him, he simply resigned before a formal vote could be issued. Had he not, there is a 100 percent likelihood he would have been formally impeached. So while this is factually incorrect, it's a little like calling Hitler a war criminal, despite the fact that he was never formally tried (what with him being dead).

But you're right, David Gregory is a filthy liar. How dare he besmirch the good name of Richard Nixon?

(sarcasm?)He should have called the GOP a mob of goose stepping fascists that backed the grandson of a Hitler supporter for President. Now that would be slander if it wasn't true!(sarcasm x 2) Nixon our only President pardoned of an impeachment after resigning to escape the prosecution of it. Is that more true?
