NBC - married with a child is an "alternative lifestyle"

I am a little confused here, how is being married and having a child an alternative lifestyle?

http://www.nbcolympics.com/news/dav...estyle-leads-olympic-gold?ctx=olympic-journey

David Wise's alternative lifestyle leads to Olympic gold

At such a young age, Wise has the lifestyle of an adult. He wears a Baby Bjorn baby carrier around the house. He also attends church regularly and says he could see himself becoming a pastor a little later down the road.

What is the big deal with being married at 23 years old and having a child?

Are the people at NBC out of touch with reality?

He's supposed to be swinging through the clubs and bars like a player, instead he's a tied down commitment freak. Def something wrong with that boy.

For an Olympian (snowboarder esp) you blockhead

Context... he doesn't get it.

To answer the OP's question, no, NBC isn't out of touch with reality. Texashiker, on the other hand, clearly is out of touch with reality... either that or he's just trollin' again. Too close to call really.

Yes its the war on marriage by the liberal media!

Actually you might not be in touch in this case. What they mean is alternative in relationship to what an olympic freestyle halfpipe skier is perceived would do at that young age.

Guess I am out of touch with kids these days.

He's 23, he IS an adult. Strange times. :\

When you consider the mental capacity and maturity of all the 23 year olds these days, he is very much an adult.

It is amazing and how very little life experience people have these days.

When my dad got out of the army, after serving 2 tours in `Nam, he was 22. Got married and had a child at 23 (me), while working full-time at a fabric mill and playing minor league baseball. That's just being an adult. I'm not sure what to think of young people today. :\

23 is rarely considered an adult by almost any standard. A 23 year old is called a young adult by common definition. Here, I'll even google it for you.

Additionally, 95% of the population isn't in the military, so your anecdote is pretty much pointless.

So a person doesn't reach "full" adult until 41? You made my point for me. At one time serving in the military, in support of your country, was common, even commended. Now people mock you for it, and with good reason considering the shitty leadership we've had the last couple generations. It's a lamentable loss and why the USA is collapsing under its own ineptitude and excess.

Since you mocked my first anecdote, here's another for you to enjoy. My great-great uncle lied about his age, stole his dead brother's birth certificate, and ran off to join the navy when he was 16 after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The amount he lived and learned before he was 23 could fill an encyclopedia. You're 100% right though, 23 is barely more than a child now.

My sister was born when my parents were 26, their first child. Try again. Maybe by 2013 standards but this is by far not the norm for the last oh, thousands of years.

23 is not an adult only in a world of emasculated men and parents who won't let their kid run around the block until they're 13 because of the make believe pedophiles on every corner. Overcome by fear and uncertainty we project it on our children and infantalize what should be a grown person.

The OP has taken a nice story and dropped a turd on it.

....Would you expect anything less? Dude loves to politicize EVERYTHING.

It's abnormal for a 23yo snowboarder to be married and have a kid. Usually they are too permafried to do anything but 720s and fakey grabs.

I love how people complain about 'kids these days'. You guys all know that adults have been complaining about 'kids these days' for thousands of years, right?

Let me guess though, this generation is worse. Yeah, people have been saying that forever too.

For a snowboarder who is good enough to be an olympian I am going to go out on a limb here and say he spends a ridiculous amount of time out on the slopes and training.

Combine his massive time commitment with his being below the median age of first child birth (~25.5) along with first marriage (~26.5) and yes - it is alternative compared to the norm
