So what does this mean? Will they higher a new production staff for less money or is the show done for good?

The show's cannot be filmed with no scripts, and there are not going to be any more scripts since the writers are on strike. The production staff doesn't have anything to do with the strike, but since they can't film the show without a script the production staff doesn't get to work. Once the strike has been resolved most of the production staffs will go back to the same job if they haven't found one elsewhere by then.

err wow.

that kind puts in perspective. the writers make a decent living and the actors? yeah they are fine.

its the grunts that are going to get hit the hardest.

I thought most of the entertainment industry are of the liberal persuasion and for the little guy, or is that only when the camera is rolling?

well not the suits, who like to f*ck whoever over they can🙂

when it comes down to it thats the real power. and so they don't need to rant on camera.

I think that it's time to start hiring scab writers... I don't want to see an entire season of reruns and reality TV this spring 🙁

On the bright side, this really gives YouTube'ers a chance to shine. Wouldn't be be cool to see an independently produced comedy or drama become popular without the help of the network promotion machine?

and potentially destroy valuable series and create enough bad blood that they lose those writers in the end? not worth it.

youtubers? sorry, i can't stand watching youtubers for more than 5 minutes at a time. let alone anything "produced" full length by amateurs. i mean chris crocker was good for a laugh, but its no bsg.

and its not the writers putting the other workers in this position, its the studios not being fair in the first place. studios have a long history of screwing actors and such over. it was esp bad in the early days, old tv series the actors sometimes wouldn't get anything for reruns let alone dvd. its only recently gotten better for actors and such.

If someone told me that my singular request for a 2% increase in profit sharing (I don't know if that's the deal, I'm just making it up) from Company A when I am otherwise doing quite well would result in the firing of even 50 people, I don't think I could go through with it.

Maybe I'm a pussy, but I'd feel really bad.
You'd feel bad until the first residual check came in, then you'd get over it 😀

Yeah... I have a bit of trouble feeling sympathy for anyone working in an industry with an average salary that's $20,000 more a year than the one that I work in.

Oooh, you poor babies.... Without those Internet royalties, you'll have to settle for a Porsche Boxster instead of the 911. Oh, the injustice of it all... :|

Dear god, no, because you know what that means? More reality shows. More. Reality. Shows. Dear sweet bullet, you shall be my unending relief from the hell that has become television.

I hope the studios hold their line. The WGA should eat shit for this (especially for '24' getting cancelled).

Yeah, the studios should get all the money.

The shows can only film till the haved used up all the scripts currently written. This isn't something just about the office. By Christmas most of the normal script shows will have gone through the same fate; not really a news item as it was an expected event.

Studios aren't entitled to the writers' labor they have to negotiate a contract for it.
If that impacts others, then too bad, so sad. If I went to work and my boss said, you need to work for half your salary, because if you don't, the people who manufacture the product you design won't have a job, I'll say no way Jose. That's their problem.

This isn't a case of the writers working for half of their salary. This is the case of earning ADDITIONAL income from DVD and online sales.

what about the 48% of writers who are unemployed and can use the residuals? would you feel bad for them?

Excellent question. The bottom line is $ and when it is $ the platitudes go right out the door.

This is why not having a TV is nice. Because when shit like this happens: You don't give a flying fuck.

Personally I don't watch any original shows on TV, so I could give a rats ass about the Hollywood writers going on strike. Kinda funny though, what will all the fat people do now that they can't just sit in front of a TV all day?

Nope. Somebody has to write a script for the "reality" show.
