NBA to do away with 3 pointers until late in the game?

what the......i understand where they are coming from (more shooters will concentrate on a midrange game), but i can't imagine this ever happening.

What they need to do is eliminate high school players from the draft. NBA should model their draft after the NFL, which requires players to wait until three college football seasons have passed since their high school graduation. The reason the NBA is struggling is because the new talent coming in is underage and undercoached. Very few kids coming out of high school have fully developed even fundamental skills like shooting. They get drafted for their potential, then sit on the bench and have no time to develop. Three or four years in college would not only improve the state of college basketball, it would also save the NBA from degenerating into professional street ball.

 Well said, I like the last line.

I don't follow b-ball but that sounds pretty damn stupid. I wish soccer was as big here as it is in the rest of the world. That's the only sport I care about anymore.

maybe it's because todays NBA players aren't taught the fundamentals of basketball; everyone wants to go one on one and pull up for the 3s.

my mildly racist grandfather would say it's another affirmative action program to force the few remaining white guys out. 😛

of course, his favorite player was larry bird. he also thinks dunks should be banned.

the article states that this will be implemented in the NBDL (first) so im not that concerned.

Wow. You appear to be one of the few people who actually read that this rule is to only be implemented in the NBDL and NOT, I repeat NOT in the NBA.

Stu Jackson is an idiot. First he screws up Vancouver's chance to keep a NBA team. Then he throws together a horrible Team USA for the Olympics. And now this stupid rule. Let's hope it bombs in the NBDL so this idea doesn't even get considered for the NBA.

what i hate about NBA games are all the fouls they call. It seems like they blow the whistle and stop the action of the game everytime someone tries to drive in.

WTF - basketballl is a shooting game. the NBA pretty much has no shooters with any skill left and they wanna do this to kill it all the way. way to go retards.

The NBA has gone Downhill since Jordan really left the game. It's only about the money, etc. No more Duels like Magic Johnson vs. Larry Bird, etc.

er... Shaq vs Yao?

Or put a salary cap on them at least. They all enter the draft early because of money, and not because of the game.

Really? I didn't know that. I thought it was just per team. My bad.

There's nothing to be done to save basketball. It was only interesting when it was a team sport and they actually enforced the rules (traveling, fouls).

Now that it's turned into a long series of sequential one-on-one games with dunk after dunk, it's a total yawner.

Yep I see it the same way. Definately does not have the grace or substance it used to.

well, the Pistons bucked the trend last year. they have a team without a prominent "superstar" type guy. top scorer was Rip Hamilton who specializes in the mid-range jumpshot.

the sacramento kings are another team that seem to have talented passers all around, making them fun to watch.
