Was just browsing the NBA standings. "Yep, West still rules. Detroit is the #1 seed out East, but would be like the 6th seed out West, pathetic. Oh God, look at those poor, poor Celtics."

And then I saw the record of the Mavericks. 43-9! That's winning 83% of their games!

Then it dawned on me. These Mavericks would have to go 30-0 in the final 30 games to break the record of 72-10 set by the Bulls in 1995. I can barely wrap my head around how amazing that season was.

BTW, I'm just some random Pistons fan. But a big sports history guy. Just found this to be pretty neat. Must have been awesome to be a Bulls fan back in the Jordan era.

heck yeah it was really fun :) but then it sucked when he played baseball then returned, then lost a little, then won then retired then came back with wizards and sucked.

edit: well he never did suck cuz he was MJ but it was very disappointing with the Wizards.

Watching clips of Tim Hardaway (from the other thread) reminded me of how great watching the NBA was in the 90's.

Jordan was responsible for de-throning the great Pistons of the late 80s/early 90s, so it was hard for me to enjoy his time in the league. I was always pissed at him.

Suns are doing pretty good too. Rematch btw Suns and Mavs in the playoff. It will be a fun series to watch.

BTW, I was always frustrated during the Jordan era. I was a huge Sonics fan. The Payton/Kemp combo was the Golden era of Sonics basketball. Even in some years when the Sonics was a better overall team than the Bulls, Jordan always found a way to win.

I've always been a die-hard Knicks fan, so I used to hate the bulls with a passion back in the 90's. Only now do I realize how incredible Jordan was and how much fun the game used to be back then because of him.

You must be a big fan. They haven't been the Bullets for a while.

If you meant the Wizards, they look pretty tough this year. G. Arenas is the man.

And I'm a Bulls fan.

When Jordan was with the Bulls he had people around him that made him shine, and he made them shine. When he went to the Wizards, well, you can't polish a turd.

I still felt it was impressive watching a 40 year old man still play at an All-Star level in the NBA.

While the Wizards team sucked, Jordan was brilliant and fun to watch.

Considering we lost 4 straight to start the season, being 43-9 is pretty damn impressive.

I'm proud of my Mavs. :)

I'm from the Chicago area, so naturally watched a lot of the Bulls growing up. Never got to see Jordan play live though.

Ya. For some reason, I just can't get into the NBA today. I still watch games sometimes, but I think trades occur at a much higher frequency. It's harder to associate a player with a team or visa versa. I guess this is more fun to watch, since you won't be stuck with the same team for years, but it's just hard to keep track of where the players are now :/

That's the same reason I can't get into college basketball anymore. Starting the early 90s (it seems), college stars started to enter the NBA draft after their Freshman/Sophomore seasons. It made it very hard to be a fan of a college team, only to have their star player ship out after the first year, leaving you with a bunch of "what ifs?".

Gotta love those Bulls.

It was amazing how many opponents mentally collapsed by the end of the first half, and even by the end of the first quarter sometimes.

which is why i don't watch basketball anymore. just a bunch of hotdoggin', airballin' ganster wannabees. there isn't a team in the nba that could win 2 out of 10 games against any 5 upper echelon teams of the 80's and 90's (best era in basketball).

i'll concede that the europeans have definitely stepped up their game in the last 10-15 years, but do you think jordan, malone, bird, johnson, barkley, stockton or any of the orginal dream teamers would've settled for anything less than a 20+ point victory in the gold medal game? they weren't only the best of their era, several of them if not all are one of the best in the game ever.... EVER. basketball is for chumps these days.
