NBA set to adopt dress code for players outside of games...

I give more props to the older players like Jordan and Johnson. Everytime I see them, they're always GQ. Who says you need that thug image to be popular. You get popular because you're good.

I dont mind somewhat of a dress code, because I dont like the ganster image either.

But...Most if not all professional athleses wear hats, bandannas, jerseys, chains, and sunglasses. And now all these things are prohibited.
I dont go anywhere without my hat, chain, and shades.

These things are part of the athlete image and its a necessity.

I don't remember the last time I saw a baseball player or a hockey player with, a bandanna, or chains.

Theres nothing wrong with TEAM hates, TEAM jerseys (neither of which ARE banned), or sunglasses.

Have you ever seen a barry bonds interview on tv? Count the chains... think you'll be needing at least 2 hands.

OK so a HANDFULL of baseball players do it, a majority of baskeball players where what your describing and most of them have an Escalade sittin on 21 inch chrome rims in the garage!

When people think of 'thuglyfe' athletes, they don't think NFL, they don't think NHL, and they don't think MLB.

In an ESPN article yesterday (can't find the link now), Marcus Camby actually went as far as saying that if this is enacted, he wants the NBA to pay for the clothes he will have to wear during the code-enforced times.

What a stupid pr*ck. I lol-ed on that one. Multi-million dollar babies. Nothing more.

When I was on the varsity basketball team in HS, I didn't charge my school to pay for the nice clothes I had to wear before and after our games.

Nothing wrong with this. Most businesses have a (in)formal dress code. If I wore sweat pants, a do-rag, and and tons of chains to work, it would be out of place.

Heh good deal. I dress nicely (business casual) when representing the company I work for, they can do the same. I havn't watched basketball since about '98 due to the image they portray.

WTH are you talking about? Don't you even dare to lump other professional sports into the way NBA players currently dress. I have never seen a MLB, NHL or NFL player dressed wearing a bandanna, shades and 25lbs of chain.

You don't like the ganster image but yet you say you need to wear a bandanna, chain and shades? 😕

I believe I said I wear a hat.

You also have never seen a post game interview with Barry Bonds, Hines Ward, Ray Lewis, and others?? More chains than you can count on one hand. I believe ray lews wear a skully cap also.

Hockey is the only white mans sport, hense the lack of thuggery.

As i tried to say b4... I dont want thugs. I dont want businessmen.
I want athletes.
Khakies... great.
Collared golf shirt...perfect.
Sport Jacket...super.

Hat or skully... nothing wrong here.
Chain and sunglasses... no problem either.

it's about damn time

those of you saying the league is overstepping it's authority are wrong..but I would agree that it's too bad the teams hadn't all done this on their own..though a few had...

There is a HUGE difference between Barry Bonds having a few gold chains on and Allen Iverson (they might as well call this rule the Iverson rule to be honest) with his hat all off to the side, bandana, retro jersey about 5 sizes too big....a big 4ss ring on every finger, jeans about 5x too big, basketball shoes on...you get the picture.

Marcus Camby is a friggin idiot who would be flipping fries if he wasn't nearly 7 feet tall....

Most NBA players are actually pretty good people, but there are a few on each team that still think they are in High School.

If you want to read about an NBA player that people can truly look up to, do yourself a favor and read about Adonnal Foyle of the Golden State Warriors, or Emeka Okafor of the Charlotte Bobcats. I don't think anyone had to tell them to dress appropriately for team functions.

Agreed, and ROFL for the bolded part. True too! 😀

might be good to set up some positive role modeles. I'm sure most of the players will realize the goal of this whole thing. I don't like dressing BC any more than the other guy, but theres a jillion little kids that think im a god, i'll dress up anyway

I don't think it's 'gay' at all, alot of basketball players perpetuate a 'gangster' look and doesn't do any good for the game, or the people that try and market it. In the late 90's when all of the 'respectful' ballers started to retire and the 'thuglyfe' players became the new superstars alot of sports store chaines went under because alot of parents and people weren't willing to buy into that persona.

Basketball players need to learn to get real.
did he get a vacation?

Iverson has already said that there is no way in hell he will be dressing business casual before games. He said he wears what makes him comfortable.

It's an athletic event for petes sake.

I dont think so. I dont see anything wrong with what i said...
I removed ghey out of the poll anyways, because of ryans post.

can't wait to see AI in slacks and polos. I hope they won't be suspending players for this. Pretty dumb dress code imo. The nba are the ones captilizing on the throwback jerseys, and now they're saying you can't wear them anymore at team functions.

that is the stupidest thing I have heard of.

sure, i agree, that a dress code when in a team or league meeting is appropriate, or when they are doing anything that is revolving around THEIR job.

but to not be able to go watch a game (not play in it, watch it) if its 2 other teams playing, and wear whatever you want, is just stupid. if they are sitting out a game for their team, sitting on the bench, sure, dress code is a good idea.

but to go to the NBA finals as a spectator and have to dress a certain way? please ... that is just the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

this is stupid because a guy like Iverson can pay off any fine that the NBA tries to impose. by doing so, he gets more media press, maintains his "street cred", and sells tons of sneakers.

newly produced throw backs aren't worth as much as the originals.

none of the players have the new ones they mostly have the old ones produced years ago. So the Nba doesn't get anything from those its the shops that do.

These guys get paid a minimum of 400K to upwards of 30 million a year. just from the teams themselves.

if they can't "suffer" through a simple dress code for a very small amount of time then they should just quit.

Obviously you can see its only a few of the players whining about it. the others either already do it or are smart enough to realize the money that's paying them is coming from corporate America and elsewhere where image is a big deal.

You misread the article. These rules only apply while the players are on team or league business. They can still thug it when they're not at work.

they are free to do whatever they want when they arent at work. but I think its a good idea to try and make the league seem a bit more professional. afterall...they are at work...

how do you flip fries? thought it was burgers that were flipped

"I understand they're making it out to make us look better to corporate and big business. But we don't really sell to big business," Suns guard Raja Bell said. "We sell to kids and people who are into the NBA hip-hop world. They may be marketing to the wrong people with this."
What a complete moron.... I understand if he's talking about jerseys and other NBA stuff, but that just kinda come off the wrong way to me...
