NBA question: who is the greatest power forward of all time?

I'd take Kevin Mchale, tho you might consider him a center.

He was part probable the greatest front court EVER. Robert Parish, Larry Bird and Kevin Mchale

tho the lakers front court was also pretty formidable w/ Worthy, Jabbar and (whoever at PF mostly Rambus).

but for just scoring i'd take that celtics front court over any other.

Who do you guys think is the best player of all time?

MJ? Wilt? Magic? Bird? Bill Russell?

I think that it's impossible to choose one because they all have their uniqueness.

As much as i loved watching Larry Legend play, he's not the same calibre as the others mentioned here in my opinion. also, i'm not sure i'd put russel there either.

MJ, Magic, Wilt. these three had that extra something. they did it all. if i had to pick just one, i'd go with Magic because with Magic you know he could have played 4 positions as at an all time GREAT level and he could play center when necessary.

MJ is pretty much a backcourt player only and wilt is basically C, PF only.

so if i were building a new team from scratch i take magic for his versatility, but other than that you can't separate the three.

Gotta be Shawn Kemp (j/k)
He earned my respect in the '96 finals, he was outstanding. Of course he crashed and dove once he signed his contract and snorted it up his nose.

Karl Malone is absolutely the best PF. Unfortunately he's not as clutch at the end of a game in the playoffs as you'd like to see tho.

Meh... I don't really know about Malone... I look at from another standpoint. What has Karl Malone done that has been different from any other player in the NBA other than have a different position? Not only that, look who he has with him, John stockton, he's constantly shoveling the ball to Malone. As for individual performance point wise I pick Karl Malone or Charles Barkley

Now, I look at it like this way.... I'm voting for Dennis Rodman, not because he's been on kick ass teams pretty much his whole career, but because he did something different. He had the scorers such as pippen, Jordan, Isiah Thomas, David Robinson, Shaq, they've all been on his team and instead of trying to get his cut of the points he focused elsewhere... such as Defense and rebounds. How many times has Karl Malone been on the all defensive team? In my opinion with the facts I just brought up... who's a better team player? Rebounds are a team benefit, esspecially if you're pulling them down and you're not the one putting them back up and defense, that's a 5 man game. Defense is half the game, it's just as important as offense.

Just an added fact... Rodman is not divac... defense means defense... flopping is not defense, it's drawing fouls.

Anyone like to re-vote?

*puts on the flame retardent suit*

I think its a toss up with Barkley and Malone with regards of pf of all time without a championship

With a championship I would say Kevin McHale

hpkeeper: the would have to disagree with the choice of rodman. reason being is that he is a one dimensional player. he absolutely disappears for half the game (on offense) according to ur definition. also... i think malone made all defense at least once. and barkley... tho i do not think he made all defense, is not a slouch himself. tho malone and barkley are known for their achievements on the offensive end, they paid their dues on D also. there is a big difference between who is the greatest PF of all time, and who is the greatest defensive PF of all time.

I wonder what Larry Johnson could have done if he hadn't screwed up his back so early into his career 🙁

IF you wanna do woulda beens, coulda beens, shoulda beens. Roy Tarpley was clearly the best power forward of all time.

Karl Malone is far better than Charles Barkley. I might be a little bias because I'm from Utah. But Barkley was an awesome player, don't get me wrong. But Karl has been in the league for a lot longer. And as far as being lucky to avoid injury, he is in better shape than 9/10's of the league and he's almost 40. And Karl is a lot better roll model than Charles also. When was the last time you heard of Karl getting into a bar fight, or have allegations of a sexual assault? NEVER. In my mind there isn't anybody that even comes close.

Dennis Rodman gets my votE!

lol He actually came to my mind when I saw this topic. He cant shoot, he cant tribble, he cant steal, but he can sure make every player crap their pants so he grabs all the rebounds 😀

On the other hand... I actually think Charles Barkley is a little better than Karl Malone on both of their primes. Like someone said before, Karl doesnt work very well w/o Stockton.

can i say Tim Duncan, i know he is young...but he is going to be the best...
how about chris webber...explosive...
but for old guys...i would have to say Karl...but i don't like him much since he is a dirty player...the whole utah team is dirty...lol
then it's sir charles...he is the funniest man...wish i could hear all of his trash talking...that would be great...
then it could be Dennis Rodman....how'd he get so many rebounds...????

IMHO, Barkley on his best day was a better, more skilled player than Karl Malone on his best day. But as I understand the question, you are asking who had the best career as a power forward. This has to be Malone. It seems very hard to argue against this. His statistics absolutely rock any other power forward's. His longetivity and durability, combined with his high productivity, makes him number one as far as I'm concerned.

But yes he's not a very likeable dude.

after robinson retires, do u think (assuming duncan resigns) will be converted to center? or will they sign some scrub 7 footer to just take up space at the center block?
