Am I imagining this or they added so many playoffs games? Don’t remember so many 4 out of 7 games growing up

it was many seasons ago. first round is no longer best of 5, and that was already well-after NBA ceased to be a basketball league, anyway, so it's understandable that you and many others would not have noticed.

Have not paid much attention to the NBA in a long time just don't enjoy it much... also both regular season and the playoffs have become SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO long!

Seems like its all about individual show-boating not really a team sport anymore.

NBA playoffs are such meaningless garbage. It surprises me that there are people that still watch it. eliminate ~4 teams from contention, and it might be something.

Sports are meaningless garbage, that's what makes them fun. They are separate from any sort of reality, they let people escape into some fantasy universe where being the best at placing things in a basket actually matters for reasons.

I agree. It's just the NBA abandoned the sport of basketball almost 2 decades ago. One pretty much has to stick to NCAA, European leagues, and women's basketball if they want to watch that game.

I don't like the NBA product. But ever since my hometown Bucks are good, I'm 100% on the bandwagon and into the hype. Giannis is a blast to watch. Can't wait for game 5 tonight.

The playoffs are way too long though. You could pay up to 28 games. That's 1/3 more of the regular season. It goes until the middle/end of June! So stupid.
First series should be best of 5 or just not exist at all. 1 vs 8 is virtually pointless (except for money and possible injuries)

Playoffs are not worth watching until at least the second round, sometimes conference finals. Also I'm really annoyed that the the Houston-Golden State games are starting at 9:30 PM Central. I'm not going to stay up until 11:30 or midnight on a weeknight just to watch the game.

All rounds in the NBA playoffs should be win 3 out of 5. 7 is just a money grab and way too long. Oh yeah and I also hate the late ass games with these West Coast teams. Should be like the Final Four and all teams go to some arena to actually do the play off rounds so starting times can be standardized.

There was a league initiative to just shoot the losers of each first playoff game. That would have shortened the entire process right up. I think the player's union objected, though.

Flawless for me.
Go Bucks!
Guess it's local, friend had issues.

As a neutral fan, these blowouts in the 2nd round of the NBA playoffs are so dumb. Not entertaining at all. If I was a Bucks fan though I'd be hype as shit.

No idea why y'all are whining "Get off my lawn." You'd rather watch 1990s style muggings than today's free flowing basketball? Stylistic preferences aside, it's obvious you're trolling when you suggested you'd rather watch women's basketball. :tearsofjoy:

I'm not as die-hard a sports fan as I used to be. In recent years, I've frequently waited until the conference finals or NBA Finals to tune in. However, this year's 2nd round has been much more compelling than usual. 3 of the 4 series are competitive and will go at least 6 games. Even Celtics/Bucks could have been a decent series if the Celtics had actually liked playing with Kyrie Irving.

IT's not the mugging vs free-flowing; it's about team play vs iso. a team strategy vs some dude that gets the ball and runs the game 1 on 1 for 4 quarters. That's garbage. (yes, I know there are some solid systems still, but that doesn't seem to be where the money is).

Most possessions are just 1on1 from half court to half court, or just running around until you free up a dude on the perimeter and launch the ball. Look no further than the preposterous invention of this new series of garbage statistics to completely eliminate the strategy of the game and focus on individual player value and performance. Sabermetrics makes sense for baseball--it's complete garbage for basketball.

Muggings no and women's BB beyond the occasional UCONN home-game *(note I live in Ct) doesn't really do it for me plus those tiny shorts really did look goofy! However I do appreciate defense and passing as well and both seem to be a lost art in today's NBA.

Unfortunately much like the NFL its all about offense now.

Although I may agree with your general premise, there are way more motion-based offenses in the NBA now than 15 years ago. Although scoring is way up due to rule changes, defensive schemes are generally more advanced than back in the clutch-and-grab days. Analytics is arguably leading to better play on both sides of the ball.

The playoffs are still too ISO-heavy for my tastes, but if nothing else the Warriors 5 year run has proven that team ball (and a heavy talent advantage) trumps ISO ball.

Couple very good game 7s yesterday, and it was just the second round. Unfortunately the Blazers will get rolled by the Dubs soon.

Of course zin would rather watch women’s basketball than NBA playoff game 7s. :tearsofjoy:

I agree with you to a degree. I still like watching the NBA, but the Harden dribbling for 10 seconds then taking a step back 3 is a bit much. You can't fault Harden though, he hits those shots efficiently. This past year with the Rockets missing other key players for stretches, he kind of had to take that shot volume. When Harden draws a foul on a 3 point attempt, and he draws WAY more of them than anyone else, it is an absurdly efficient shot. I saw that he averages 2.65 points per attempt on such shots.

Edit: I think there might need to be some rule changes. You see guys like Curry and Lillard pushing the boundaries of what is a good shot. Also, Harden with his unassisted step back 3s. There is also the prominence of the corner 3 where 1-2 guys just sit there waiting to catch and shoot. 3 point shooting is just becoming too efficient at this point.

All that said, I'm a Bucks fan. Giannis for MVP!
