NBA: Mavs <-> Nuggets blockbuster trade

First, the Nuggets are dumb for taking Juwan's contract. $20 mil next year. wtf???

Nick Van Exel seems to explode in every situation he is in. I wouldn't want him as my floor leader.....

like dallas needed to be any better! dallas got a GREAT deal...the #1 pick for them is going to be pretty low anyway....

<< Why did Dallas need another guard? They have Tim Hardaway now also. >>

read the article. hardaway was part of the trade. so he's gone. they got 2 point guards from the nuggets though: van axel and avery

<< hoho, wonder who's the #1 option to shoot... >>

Do you smell another Portland?

🙂 It sucks that we traded Howard. Exactly WHO in the trade is of value? Howard doesn't have hops and can't hit the three. It's just disappointing. The nuggets will have another lackluster year without a leader.

Anybody who watched the Nuggets when they had the best home record until all-star break, knows that Van Exel was a great presence on the floor.

timmy was included in the trade. he's now a nugget, overjoyed as must be 😛

dallas also got avery johnson, so with nash starting, nick at night playing the 2,
maybe the point on occasion as well, they got a logjam back there. cuban is
desperate. this doesn't look like a trade a smart basketball guy would've done.

Stifko, Tim Hardaway is being traded as part of the deal, he's with the No-Guts now. This could be either the best thing that ever happened to the Mavs, or this could ruin their good chemistry and balance. LaFrentz is an excellent player, they got a good deal there. Nick "The Quick" Van Exel seems to be a very temperamental guy, I hope for the Mav's sake they get him to be a little more even-keeled.

The Mavs also got rid of an incredibly bad top-heavy contract they got themselves into with Juwan Howard.... I think they win this one all around, considering their #1 draft pick won't be more than a #25 or so.

This could make things interesting between the Mavs and the Lakers when they end up meeting. There is no "antidote" to Shaq, but that should be a pretty explosive back court with Nick and Nash.

pretty good trade in my opinion. mav's need someone who can move the ball up and down quick besides nash. i find van exel very annoying though. especially whenever he drains those 3's.

that just makes for too many small point guards on the Mavs. If they play Nick at the 2 then defensively they'll get worked. Nash should get most the minutes but how they work it out is anybody's guess. If they've got something worked out they'll hopefully move Avery then. Lafrentz is good but of course he ain't no answer for shaq come playoff time. Just another 6 fouls to give or maybe draw shaq out of the paint on the defensive end.

LaFrentz
Nowitzki

thats a pretty formidable starting 5.

Van Exel at SG? Nowitzki at PF?

How awesome it is to have so many good players that you can move guys away from their natural spot 🙂

You guys see the trade between Golden State and Minnesota? What a joke.

Mark Jackson for some nobody and a future 2nd round pick. Why did they even bother matching Houston's offer sheet last summer.

<-- what i'll be wearing at my next warrior game.

Well Dirk is naturally a pf. And I think Van Exel would excel (definitely no pun intended) at the sg position, which would really take advantage of his slashing and penetration skills.

That was a HORRIBLE trade by the Warriors..they could have done a lot better (didn't the Suns offer their first rounder?).

Nugs will suck for a while, but at least they cleared some capscpace by unloading Van Exel's and Abdul-Wahad's contracts. Juwan's contract will look mighty good to them once it expires and they're left with a HUGE chunk of available cap space. But then again, having money doesn't necessarily mean they'll attract the big name free agents. Just look at Chicago.

<< didn't the Suns offer their first rounder >>

I read a few weeks ago the Suns offered John Wallace and a protected 1st rounder, which was turned down (wtf??!!?)

For a fantasy basketball team?

You're going to have to beat the lakers at some point, and I'm not sure you can have Nash and Van Exel on the floor at the same time against the Lakers, because of Bryant. Actually, Lafrentz is arguably better than Van Exel. Nowitzi and Lafrentz is a damn good shooting frontcourt. Shaq will not gaurd anyone at the 3 point line. I think Lafrentz was the guy they wanted for this reason. Pull Shaq out from under the basket. They'll have to use all their fouls on defense though.

Finding someone to beat Shaq is impossible and pipe dream. But as a collective unit, the Mavs now have enough guns to keep up with the Lakers.
