this should finally prove whether or not Phil Jackson can flat out coach.

he has 9 championship rings....

that proves nothing... .....

neither do the .. what is it.. 3 dynasty's?

all with teams with arguably the top players in the league at the time. yes, you do have to be a competent coach to win the titles, but i think there were questions as to how he would fare with a team without the best player in the league. i'm not discounting what he's done, i'm just curious to see how he handles a sub par team.

now he's on a team that didn't make the playoffs last season. i'm interested to see how he will handle the team. he's still got Kobe, so i guess we'll see.

Hm you seem to know what you're talking about... so why is it that the coaches before Jackson, who had the exact same duos, didn't win championships? Why is it that Jordan and Shaq both put so much faith in him, that they both said they would leave when Jackson leave?

I'm not a basketball fan, i haven't watched a single an entire game in my life (infact, i doubt i've ever watched more than 5mins at any one time), but i read enough to know how important Jackson is.

I haven't a clue why there was so much speculation over where Phil Jackson is going to coach. He is not going to work out in L.A. Sure he has 9 rings, but with what? Jordan & Pippen, then Shaq & Kobe. How is he going to do without the top notch nba talent on his side? Can Phil Jackson really do what, say, Scott Skiles did for the Bulls this year?

And besides, the Bulls could have won those championships even if they had stayed with Doug Collins as head coach.

Yes and it's just a coincidence that Phil won 3 championships right after Doug Collins left, and another coincidence he won 3 more right after the Lakers bounced Del Harris. Del Harris had a load of talent but can't get past the 2nd round. PJ comes his 1st season and wins 67 games. Phil is the ultimate motivator. If you think 9 championships is a fluke, you must be on crack. Sure, with Jordan any coach could've won a few championships. But to win 6 with one team and 3 with another, that is not just a hiccup. Also Phil with Scottie Pippen, won 55 games and got to the Eastern Conference Finals. Lakers won't be a top team in the west next year, but they'll be much better than this past season's awful group.

Before Phil joined the Bulls, they were progressing each year getting further in the playoffs, no one comes in the league as a rookie and is immediately tops in the NBA.

Regardless, there is a big difference between taking a group of superstars to the championship, and developing younger players into superstars. I do not see Phil Jackson's laid-back zen coaching being able to work when he does not have the best in the league already playing at the top of their game.

Forget that. Shaq is getting old, and malone would need a walker to play. What we need to do is get rid of Brian Grant and his stupid-ass bench-warming 14 million dollar contract. It would have behooved the Lakers to trade Shaq for some players of worth.

Now we have a lottery pick and no money to be able to sign a substantial contract with. :(

EDIT: Oh, I forgot. YEEEEAAAAHHHH PHIL
