It's mind-numbingly boring to watch thugs who don't give a flying shat about the game play for what seems like an ETERNITY with no passion, no desire, and no care of what team honestly wins. They're there for that paycheck, and that is all.

Now, COLLEGE basketball is where you see strivers, winners, and players passionate about the game. It all goes downhill as soon as they hit the NBA, though. I watch nearly every sport televised (even those Woodsmen Games), but the NBA is honest to goodness more boring than watching paint dry.

i would have to say hockey is the worst ... i mean, how there isn't a season and all cause of all that drama.

yay, another "____ sucks" thread.

 it's the finals. these teams competed hard to get here and played amazing defense. last time i checked, defense was required to win championships. and yes, i can find viewing enjoyment in a 1-0 hockey game as well.

fortunately this will be televised for those of us without cable / TNT... GO PISTONS!

network nightmare? you people are moronic.

This is the matchup that any true basketball fan would want to watch. These are without a doubt the two best teams in the NBA. They went 1-1 in the regular season I believe so neither team really knows each other very well. I am very glad that we aren't seeing a fully tuned and healthy Spurs team go up against the hobbled Miami team, that woulda been a blowout.

Without looking at your profile, I'll guess you're from Boston. :D

I was rooting for both the Celts and Lakers to lose since I'm a Sixers fan. :p

Seriously, a good defense can be fun to watch, but I miss the old high scoring days. BTW, it wasn't all high flying dunks. It was just some well executed offenses.
Yeah right, you could tell I'm from Boston. :roll:FYI I'm a California transplant who never liked the Celtics though I always admired Larry Bird.

It was just a guess which was meant in jest in response to your post. I apologize if it insulted you.

Remember. Defense always wins championships. Miami had this high-falutin' team, with two of the bigger stars in the league, and a bunch of no-namers brought them down. Same thing with the Patriots really.

The only reason college basketball seems exciting is because its pinnacle is a tournament with single game elminations. The overall team skill levels and alleged team play is laughable. Their 3 point line is the same spot than half the power forwards in the NBA will hit about 50% of the time. And the insanely long shot clock is just booooring. Still, the single game elimination tournament makes up for a lot of that.

The spurs are a pretty fun team to watch when manu ginobilli is in form. The pistons are ok too, but it kind of gets boring to watch 500 richard hamilton pick and rolls in a row. There isn't enough back door cutting, even after the success of new jersey who almost lived there.

Yeah this should be a great series. I think this series will be easier on Ben Wallace and Prince as I'm guessing Bowen will be chasing Hamilton leaving poor little manu on Prince. But if Prince doesnt step up then this series will be very close indeed. Obviously when Sheed plays well Detroit wins so he is key as well. Like I said though Ben I'm sure would much rather play on Duncan than Shaq. Regardless Detroit matches up better with the Spurs than they did with the heat.

The Lions might soon surprise you if they can avoid being bitten by the injury curse that always seems to hit them.

That's only part of the excitement of college bball. The players skill level are actually quite high. Take UNC for instance. They probably had 5 NBA players on their team. And yet, they lost to Santa Clara. It's more about team ball in the NCAA, and that's why upsets happen and made NCAA bball exciting. Also, you have these college kids rushing the floor after a big win. Makes for good tv.

I'm a Pistons fan and even attended the very last NBA game ever played at the Pontiac Silverdome when the Pistons beat the Lakers to take a 3-2 lead in the 1988 NBA Finals.

But I think the Spurs are going to win this one. I say that because it seems as though the Pistons haven't played with too much intensity in this year's playoffs. They should have wiped out Miami in five or six games. Instead they almost lost the series and were saved by an injury to the other team's star player. Indiana also gave them some grief.

I just don't see them beating the Spurs. They'll have to bring their A-game to do it.

sounds good to me.

if it's boring to you, it's because ESPN has convinced you that high-flying dunks and high-scoring/defense-lacking games are exciting.

Amen. This is the matchup I've been hoping for. Should be a fantastic series.

Quite high compared to other college teams. If that 5 man lineup started in an NBA game they would get annihilated. Only one or two players really excel in the NBA out of college each year it seems. Look at all the laettner syndrome victims out there... people who shined in college and had lackluster NBA careers because it's a different monster.

It's more about team ball, but that doesn't mean that they are necessarily great team players. It's mostly because rarely do you have outstanding individual players. I mean, how many times in college do you see no one coming to the back court to help with a trap until the trap is more or less fully set? I see it wayyy too often in college games. Not exactly great team play. Also, a lot of the "team" play on offense is just passing the ball around and hoping someone will fail to switch properly. There aren't a lot of complicated offensive plays. Which isn't surprising, the college players don't have 82 games plus huge amounts of 8 hour practice days to learn the schemes.

Its nice living here.... we have 3 good NBA Teams so I've always had someone to root for almost all the way to the Finals every year since the early 90's
Rockets 94-95 Champs
Rockets 95-96 Champs
Spurs 99-00 Champs

Now the Spurs are back again!

Your years are all off by one (Rockets '94&'95, Spurs '99), and you missed the Spurs second title ('03).

So you wanted miami to sweep their opponents if they made the finals?

I just wanted to see Shaq vs. Yao, Wade vs. McGrady.

These two are the best defensive clubs in the league...if you are a true fan you should appreciate defense as much as offense. Defense wins championships.

Well if I actually felt that being considered a Celtic fan was an insult I sure as hell wouldn't be confiding it with my friends and neighbors here in Boston;)
