passing the ball off the backboard, is passing to yourself technically. its like if you alleyopped it to yourself, you cant do it in game, but they let it go for the all star game.

no its not seen it in games

they should offer a million dollar first place prize and all the top dunkers would come out and compete!!

the rule in the NBA was changed. if the ball goes over the hoop it's not considered a pass to oneself.

In a real game that would be traveling since the ball didn't hit the rim. It was entertaining though.

Section XIV-Traveling
a. A player who receives the ball while standing still may pivot, using either foot as the pivot foot.
b. A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may use a two-count rhythm in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball.
The first count occurs:
(1) As he receives the ball, if either foot is touching the floor at the time he receives it.
(2) As the foot touches the floor, or as both feet touch the floor simultane- ously after he receives the ball, if both feet are off the floor when he receives it.
The second occurs:
(1) After the count of one when either foot touches the floor, or both feet touch the floor simultaneously.
c. A player who comes to a stop on the count of one may pivot, using either foot as the pivot foot.
d. A player who comes to a stop on the count of two, with one foot in advance of the other, may pivot using only the rear foot as the pivot foot.
e. A player who comes to a stop on the count of two, with neither foot in advance of the other, may use either foot as the pivot foot.
f. In starting a dribble after (1) receiving the ball while standing still, or (2) coming to a legal stop, the ball must be out of the player's hand before the pivot foot is raised off the floor.
g. If a player, with the ball in his possession, raises his pivot foot off the floor, he must pass or shoot before his pivot foot returns to the floor. If he drops the ball while in the air, he may not be the first to touch the ball.
h. A player who falls to the floor while holding the ball, or while coming to a stop, may not gain an advantage by sliding.
i. A player who attempts a field goal may not be the first to touch the ball if it fails to touch the backboard, basket ring or another player.<---------------------------
PENALTY: Loss of ball. The ball is awarded to the opposing team at the sideline, nearest spot of the violation but no nearer the baseline than the foul line extended.

See section "i"

Ball touched the backboard...not travelling. They do call Travelling in the NBA, maybe not as much as they should, but they do call it. The shot in question did not qualify as travelling.

Eh, not bad.

If you REALLY want to see a spactacular dunk try to find some old vid caps of Spud Webb when he won the Slam Dunk competition back in the late 80's. That guy was like 5' 6" and could go above the rim.

It makes Vince Carter's dunk look like a walk in the park.

why are you comparing a slam dunk contest to an in-game dunk?
VC's was much better than tmac's from a couple years ago i think.

Carter's dunks are amazing, though if there is one thing I'm disappointed about his dunk contest performance is that his distance dunk is still far short of the free throw line.

---

uhh he did it with two hands tho
thats a little harder so what if he was a few inches inside the free throw line

We're talking about a few feet, not inches.

Did anybody else notice that the guy who inbounded the ball afterwards didn't lift his foot until AFTER he passed it, therefore the ball should have been the East's again?

That was nice, but the best Vince Carter dunk was when he jumped OVER the 7' French guy during the 2000 Olympics.

the nba allstar game is probably one of the worst pieces of sport entertainment to watch IMO.

it shows the nba as an even LAZIER group of athletes than normal games do ... that dunk is a perfect example, no one stepped up as he dribbled down the court and went right to the hole.

but regardless, cool dunk 🙂
