Definitely one of the more impressive "seconds" of gameplay shown last night during the MTV special was of NBA 2K6. Not satisfied with the less-then-a-second of gameplay they showed, I hunted down some more footage over at IGN.

So impressed was I with what I saw, that I have simply watched it atleast 10 times by now. I also felt commissioned to start a thread dedicated to this game so everyone could see it. I didn't even bother checking the big thread over in ATOT. And remember when you watch the short video, the fellas over at Sega promise that this same quality and animation will fully be in tact with a full court of players.

NBA 2K6 video. Be amazed. (<----- right-click, save as, or stream **WARNING, SLOW SERVER**)
XBOX 360 vids (including the NBA 2K6 one)

Heh. I was about to reply with "You do realize that's just a video of LeBron James, not from the actual game?". Then I realized, oh wait, it was from the game. Very impressive

Sports titles have had that quality of animation for a while now (mo-cap is mo-cap).

What's really making it look good is now they have the lighting and detail to match, so the brain starts to go "ah, the real thing".

Nice to know games are finally getting close to that visual plateau where all graphics will be equal, and gameplay and story will become king.

I think this is better filed under "believe it when you see it." That video is impressive. However, it looks like a tech demo and I have a hard time believing that we'll have jersey motion like that anytime soon with 10 guys on court.

Apparently, the NFL 2K team has partnered up with the NBA 2K team for this title. That's good enough for me as those were the best products in their respective sports all last gen.

They're real all right. Note how it requires you to authenticate from mtv.com to even play them.

looks good but when your playing from a zoomed out view and looking at the back of the guys head most the time it won't impress you as much. Doesn't look in game and in game shots never look as good as videos/replays.

For every 5 guys who have their backs to you, there should hopefully be another 5 staring back at you. However, I never use that camera angle, and I'm not quite sure why all the basketball games have reverted to that as the default. Give me the sideline camera, and I'm happy.

Because it's a lot nicer breaking someone's ankles with a crossover when you can see his face as he flails at you as you go by :)
