If you work in the military, after you do your time, go to college and get a degree. Then you can pretty much get any government civilian job around.

The navy will give you experences that you will never get anywhere else.

I loved my job in the navy and ilearned more than just how to fix airplanes ;)

I would suggest you enlist if you are not married and then do a sea tour and then re-up for your shore time.

Use your shore time to go to school at night. The navy will pay for 75% of your tutition cost while you are in and then when you get out you are that much closer.

I assume you are still in hs.

1) If you have good grades, apply to the service academies or Merchant Marines.
2) Goto a local public college and join rotc.

botomline: you will get more out of service as an officer rather than an enlisted.

Well, at least you get to see the world. Or so they say...

I got to see 27 countries in six years.
I got out as an E-6

The millitary is what YOU make of it.
They are not going to hand you things on a silver platter.

Get good test scores.
Get a good job in writing before you join.
And keep your head low....

I was quoting Warcraft 2.

You can come in as an E-1, E-2, or E-3. It depends on how long you enlist, if you had some prior college, etc. E-1 -4 are ranks given to you over a certain period of time. E-5 you have to test for. Here is a link to the pay scale.

How is college hard to pay for? Are you going to Stanford or Harvard?

In Cali, a CSU will run you $2000 a semester or so for tuition and books. If you go to a junior college first for your general ed, it will run you a few hundred a semester.

I had friends in college who put themselves through with part time waitering jobs.
Agreed. You could easily get through college on 15k tuition. You'd probably even get approved to loan that much without a cosigner.

They have a weather department too, and you don't have to deal with all of the Navy's ridiculous uniforms.
