Ever had a hunting dog?
I work with my Lab about 15hrs a week non hunting season. We are so close that if I leave the house with a gun case and don't take her she will be pissed at me for days after.
I could almost bet you would get the same pictures if it was me... maybe they brought the dog to help the kids deal with it.

The dog could probably smell it's owner in the casket, or at least traces on the casket from when the body was being loaded into it. Dog's are pretty perceptive, especially if they are close to their owner.

When my wife was in the hospital I brought home a bag of her clothing to be washed and plopped it by the door, our dog smelled her clothing and started taking out the clothes, convinced I had her hidden in the bag somewhere..RIP to the Seal, condolences to the family..

Even if it was just for the photo op, it doesn't make the love and loyalty of the dog to his fallen master any less authentic.

I'm sure there has been a multitude of different pets that attended their owners funeral. In case you haven't heard, dogs are very loyal pets. This guy obviously spent a ton of time with his dog doing training etc, and they likely even seen combat together. Are you really that fucking clueless?

my dog would do the same. he follows me everywhere. if i go to sleep and shut the bedroom door, he lies down right outside of my door. when i'm watching tv, he lies down right in front of the sofa... even now as i'm typing, he's lying down behind me right next to my bed.

dogs are amazing companions... way better than humans. if you treat them right, they'll never break your heart or lie to you or cheat on you or hurt you or talk shit about you or anything. the worst they'll do is chew some of your stuff when they're going through a phase or they'll have diarrhea on the floor if they're sick and can't hold it until you get home from work any longer.

Really? Do you think this situation would be the norm for most dog owners? Lets say you have a large room containing a dozen caskets of recently deceased dog owners. You then let a dozen dogs belonging to the deceased owners come into the room and observe the behavior. If you were a betting man and had to make a bet on what would happen, would you say that the dogs would a) Somehow identify the caskets of their respective owners and lay down in front of the casket like what happened with this Navy SEAL. or b) do what dogs do, i.e. sniff each other, lick themselves, wander around? I would put money on the latter being the likely case for the majority of them. But does that mean the dogs and their owners did not have a connection together? No. I just think it's unlikely to happen, and of course, it doesn't make a very good tear-jerker, but that's just the way things work out sometimes.

Rudee, most people are terrible dog owners and don't have good relationships with their dogs. There is a lot more to having a strong bond with a dog than just feeling an emotional tie.
