Just like this other time, these stupid Americans needed more oil, so they drilled in really really deep water, but they didnt really know how to do it and used bad safety equipment, and so the rig blew up, killed a bunch of people and spewed oil all over the ocean and they totally fucked up their own coast and food supply. This is natural selection. First there is an accident and the tanker overturns, without blowing up. The driver of the tanker was evacuated and the tanker did not blow up untill the locals started to siphon up the fuel. I bet some local's cigarette fell and blew everyone up. These people have no sense. They are so desperate that they are not smart enough to think that the whole tanker might blow up.

Normally police would show up (in a civilized country) and evacuate everyone.

The worst part is that the governments never share any of the profits from the oil companies. Then the people are so poor that they will drill a hole in a pipeline trying to get some fuel to cook dinner.

If you are too stupid to see the danger and evacuate, you die. If you were smart and left the area you lived. Only the intelligent would have survived. The smart people would have survived, and those with inferior faculties did die. Survival of the fittest. While this was a tragedy, only those who left immediately, or happened to already be far enough away from the crash site would have survived. Call it a dumb accident if you want to.
