What is the next release name after zitty zebra?

What happens when they get to W? Well, I guess it won't matter because they used H twice too. (Anyone remember 4.10 through 5.10?). They'll probably loop around again.

no usb stick? CD/DVDs are so 2000's
I'm stuck in the 2000's. What century are you in?!?!? :D

LoL!

Anyway, I'm running a DFI LanParty PRO875B rev B1 mobo.

I don't think this thing will boot off a thumb drive.

I dunno... I just got a bad *feeling* when I read that the NN A1 Live CD has a bug, and won't fit on a CD.

SUP DAT?!?!?

I've been following the NN threads, over at Ubuntu Forums.

It's too "buggy crashy" for me, at this point, and I love to play with stuff like this!

I think I'll wait for A2...

Thought I should update this thread.

Natty has been coming along nicely, the past week or so.

This is where my Alpha 3 stands...

Natty still contains some deal-breakers, so don't install it yet, unless you like this kind of stuff. ;)

I haven't used it outside of the netbook edition, but from all the screenshots I've been seeing, Unity looks nice... how is it in the alpha?

Well...

I like Unity just fine, but I don't mind change, e.g. I like to learn new things, you know?

Heh! Most ppl like new things, but they hate change. I never have understood this...

Alpha 2 was horrid -- actually unusable on this (1GB RAM) machine, after a few minutes of runtime.

Alpha 3 has been much better, especially the past couple of weeks. They're really smashing the bugs!

Natty is rather resource hungry, at this point. That's one of the deal-breakers, but they'll fix it, I'm sure.

I'm using Chromium 10 for my browser (Fx 4.0 beta is the default). Chromium 10, with the appropriate 'speed flags' enabled, really flies!

  • Go to about:flags
  • Enable GPU Accelerated Compositing
  • Enable GPU Accelerated Canvas 2D
  • Enable Web Page Prerendering
  • Restart

Runs circles around Fx 4.0 rc1! ;)

BTW, I read last night, that there is only going to be one Ubuntu download in the future, starting with Natty (Final).

That is, everything will be included on one disk, soooo no more multiple versions, on multiple disks, to download.

That will be nice!

There will only be Ubuntu and Ubuntu Server. I dont know if they will still have 32 and 64 bit versions, I hope so.

can i use gnome in a3 ??
what is this widget section on the right hand side?
Yeah, you can use Gnome in Natty, just load it up in Classic Mode at the login screen.

Also, you can use Gnome Shell aka GS, if you're hardcore, but that requires a lot of fiddling, to get it installed and running.

And, the widget section on the side is my Conky setup -- a mixture of Conky, conkyForecast, and Lua.

Here's my latest data dump, on Ubu Forums, if you're interested... ;)

I've been tempted to try it out, but I don't like the look or concept of Unity from what I've seen. I'm going to wait until release to test drive it. That way it'll at least be somewhat polished, and I can give it a real trial without unfinished bits clouding my judgment. I'm staying with 10.04 as my full time O/S until 12.04, and I'll evaluate what I'm going to do then. Either stick with Ubuntu, or go to Debian.

I agree. Unity doesn't really appeal to me but I will give it a fair shake when 11.04 is released. Isn't the switch from X to Wayland supposed to happen in 11.10? That will be another major change to consider.

For now, I'm really happy with 10.10 64-bit.

Really, guys...

There is a LOT going on behind the scenes, in Natty, right now. You wouldn't believe how fast things are moving!

Canonical is going to pull this off. Things have improved greatly, in just the past week.

Updates are flowing at a feverish pace -- several times a day.

I don't mean this as a condemnation...

It's easy to say, "I'll give it a fair trial." Ppl are saying that all over the web. Please do!

This release is going to cause a paradigmatic shift in Linux, and be unlike anything you've experienced before.

Keep an open mind!

Once you get used to the concept, other distros look n' feel soooo diluted.

Natty is going to be a spoiler! ;)

I'm interested in how nvidia and ati plan to support wayland. Last I read they planned to not support it at all. That worries me.

I think that's so far in the future, it doesn't matter at this point. Everybody can say anything they want at the early planning stages, but technology changes too fast to derive any meaning from early plans.
