Are you questioning my claim, and the analysis of the US Navy, that the pirates are not linked to Muslim terror organizations?

These pirates are not linked to any Muslim terror organizations. But that doesn't mean people who analyze these sorts of things should just disregard the related issues.

Is it reasonable to expect a 9/11-style attack from people who are motivated by economics? Destroying an oil platform or sinking a ship in a canal (or something similar) could be used as back up for a future threat... "we did it before, we'll do it again..."

Or, Islamic extremists could study pirate methodology to launch seaborne attacks on infrastructure or other high value/symbolic targets. The similarities with 9/11 are there... the relative simplicity and audacity of the attack. Has the threat landscape changed again?

These days people don't assume that airline pirates are rational actors who value self preservation and who have a price. Considering the comments made recently by the Somalis, I hope they will stop doing that with ship piracy soon, before all of the potential terrible consequences are realized. Kill them outright.

Yes the 2nd and 3rd order of effects from this will have to be dealt with but continuing a "light" course of action vs piracy will certainly result in far worse scenarios.

In any case, I don't know of anyone with authority or expertise claiming the Somali pirates are Jihadists, yet the situation needs to be studies with all cards on the table.
