I refer to them as Native Americans, not because it's PC, but because Indians is an inaccurate description. Why keep Christopher Columbus' mistaken description alive?

Because Indians refer to themselves as Indians and so does the federal government.

We should do what we, as individuals, can to eliminate ignorance, even when legislated.

Indians prefer to be called Indians. Their gaming bureaus and tribal councils and associations and reservational institutions all refer to themselves as Indians, well most of them anyway.

If Indians don't mind being called Indians, why in the hell should you care if they're called Indians?

Indians.

I am white and born in NJ. I am native american, a native to this country. Put that down on my application to a job a while back too. Got the job.

If you have noticed the term has been changed most places to American Indian now.

Being PC is a waste fo everyones time.

I am white, rappers are black, the people who rip you off in Casinos are Indian.

I did put down european american on my census form though because I was in a pissy mood.

Actually, there's a lot of indicators now that support the theory that there might indeed have been "white people" (of Norse caucasoid origin) here even before the "Native Americans" were here..... (for example, Kennewick Man). More info here.

Who the hell calls American Indians Aboriginals? Why not call them "African Tribesmen"? Aborigines are from Australia.

And this is the definition of "network" from webster's dictionary:

network

\Net"work`\, n. 1. A fabric of threads, cords, or wires crossing each other at certain intervals, and knotted or secured at the crossings, thus leaving spaces or meshes between them.

2. Any system of lines or channels interlacing or crossing like the fabric of a net; as, a network of veins; a network of railroads.

But you know that definition 1 is not what people mean 99% of the time they use the word.

I have heard the word aborigine used for both definitions.

i prefer to talk about them using tribe name... like i know a Lakota(sp?) Sioux... that guy is Cool... he's like one of the few that doesnt aggree with "indian gaming" he says it's not cultural, it's meant as a money maker. (which it is)

oh, and for the record, indian gaming is a coined phrase, where they are allowed to have casino's built on tribal reservations, independant of state laws. they dont pay taxes, they dont have to adhere to the age 21 requirement...

it's disgusting.
