This includes messages from the president!!

Just for giggles I thought I would see what the opt-out process is. I'm on the phone with AT&T right now and I am being told that I can opt out of everything EXCEPT messages from the president.

What the hell do these to things have to do with one another?

I would guess that both types of messages would be part of the Emergency Alert System.

Edit: I would also guess that messages from the president would be more along the lines of "There is an incoming asteroid, we are powerless to stop it. Take cover and kiss your ass goodbye." instead of "Vote Obama 2012."

I thought we weren't due for an asteroid hit 'til 2024? Damn asteroids, they're so...unpredictable. Call for Bruce Willis! Wait, better yet, call for Liv Tyler! Meeeow! 😀:

Hey man, it's very important that the President himself tells you if we've been nuked. You'd never know it otherwise. :sneaky:

I... don't really know what they're thinking. Cause if you're still able to recieve THAT message, then the internet still works and you can still receive it from everyone else.

And the messages are about states of emergencies declared in your area. I don't see a problem with it.

So the man himself is going to text me about the state of things in my area?
I would perfer to get my information from a reliable source thank you.

Hopefully there will be an app for blocking it.

Take your pick.

Do you honestly think it would be the President?

Federal States of Emergancy, HAVE TO BE DECLARED BY THE PRESIDENT. This would allow the President's administration to more effectively disseminate information on federal assistance in disaster struck areas.

Almost everyone has a cellphone these days. As long as the cell towers have power(as well as the person cell phone), information can get to people without power/tv/internet.

Yes, the president is personally going to type a text message just for you. He plans to do that to each and every citizen one by one.

He'll also use the NSA dossier on you to look up whether your milk has expired or you need a fresh bag of apples. Because he cares.
