Wear your uniform.

I can't... we got direct orders not to.

as a form of protest, or to prevent being a target of protest from the people linked above?

I'd hope they wouldn't send orders out for that reason... At best i'd hope they say its optional, but strongly discouraged.

WTF do they think the military is for?
Well in his case he joined the National Guard to get out of serving in Nam. The funny thing is that during his time in the Guard he found a way of not serving with them for a whole year while he was AWOL.

That said, I agree that if you sign up with the Guard and you are called it is your duty to report and serve.

They didn't want any incidents to erupt with any protestors on campus.

thats screwed up. if ROTC students became a target and anything happened(assuming it was not started by the R students, and they didnt make it worse), it would be the NION protesters fault. your CO is basically saying to be ashamed and afraid, IMO.

edit: or just trying to avoid involuntarily instigating an incident. hmmm... tuff call. i think your CO should order wear them, but also order no interaction at all with the protests.

I don't think they have that intention... they just don't want anything to happen that would cause any commotion. Irrational people do irrational things. And my guess is that if they started targeting uniformed cadets and harassing them, that eventually something would happen and it would just make the program look bad.
Let them have their fun... think they are hippies for a day. We'll still be here next week.

I'm not saying I mind it, I'm just saying when a group of people who believe that violence is always wrong (yet, somehow, throwing glass bottles fails to violate their priciples against violence) start fighting with a group who are in the process of being trained how to fight as an organized, disciplined group (and, lets not forget, have actually engaged in more physical activity in the past week than going on a muchie run to 7-11), the results tend to be rather one sided. And one sided, in the public's eye, means bad P.R.

Thats just from an incident that happened last year, although you have to replace ROTC with "National Guard" for it to be factually correct. I have no doubt that the results would be similar, though.

Anybody in ROTC that does not wear their uniform tomorrow in protest for this clown needs to be booted out of the Training Corps.

Wear your uniform tomorrow with pride and honor.

Not if wearing them is in direct violation of an order. I hear they get picky about that whole "obeying orders" thing

:p

"We do not direct our opposition to the war at the brave servicemen and women who volunteer to protect and serve our country with honor and sacrifice but at the politicians who make US policy."

The Great Hippie Lie is rearing its ugly head again.

Exactly. I would gladly wear my uniform tomorrow, had the higherups not issued an order not to.

Purdue ROTC (Army) issued the same order on September 11, 2001.

Heck, as a senior in AFROTC, I'm wearing my flight suit tomorrow and the objectors can go to hell, or if they want, I'll send them over to the desert to tell all our folks over there in uniform why they are wrong to serve...

There is no such occurance called the "Viet Nam War." The U.S. involvement in Viet Nam was a "police action."

It was certified, bonified, verified and petrified by the Uniteed Nations. Yes, that organization of high moral quality. Yep, the same entity that turns its back on mayhem, genocide and starvaation, unless the U.S. leads the way.

Just gotta love them U.N. hypocrites.
