All the pro agruments I have seen rely on the basis that you can't forge them. Sounds like what MS said about XP.

Of course you can forge them... unless they are part of a central database that, when you check it, pulls up your picture.

cross reference with a quick finger-print check, and your good.

oh, and your also one step closer to allowing someone evil *like bush, or Hillary* take over the nation and install a totalitarian regime.

Seriously, both sides don?t trust the government because the other side's devil might be elected? so why give someone the means?

If it ever comes to needing a national ID card or microchip under your skin to live in America I'll be looking for a new place to live . . .

Why don't we just change our names to the USSR while we're at it. This is a joke. Our forefathers would be turning in their graves if this happened, if they aren't at the suggestion.

But the terrorist boogey man of your local wal-mart getting attacked by terrorists demands that you get a national ID.

I'd rather see the nation fall, even millions die in nuclear attack, than see it 'stand' by destroying the liberty that it stands for.

but that's just me, maybe you people value your and your children?s lives more than your liberty? and if that is the case, then you are sure to lose it for those same children you say you are protecting.

Anyone with a driver's license already has their name and ID number in a central database - some states require entering the DL number into a computer when buying alcohol/tobacco to verify that someone is actually of age. Anyone over the age of 18 is (theoretically) required to have a state-issued ID of some sort, even if they can't drive. Keeping it at the state level isn't necessarily a bad thing, IMO, but it doesn't change much to federalize the whole mess.

Exactly my thought. All this would cause is more tax money to be wasted on a system that won't work. It would most likey be no more affective than a state ID card and may be worse because of the amount the government will have to handle.

If your trying to make a point to me, why don't you read my post again. If you can't see I'm against this then I'm sorry, you need to go back to school. However, I do agree with what you said, I too would "rather see the nation fall, even millions die in nuclear attack, than see it 'stand' by destroying the liberty that it stands for." I just hope I didn't take your post the wrong way though like it seemed to me you have taken mine.

EDIT: for clarity (sort of, very tired).

The other thing to consider is that if a national ID was used in elections, the democrats would lose a lot of votes they normally get through fraud and bribery.

Boy, that's a thoughtful response, Crimson! Even if Democrats were committing fraud and bribery to get votes (which I don't believe they have done any more than the Republicans), how would a national ID card alleviate it?

Considering most states don't even require a picture ID for voting, I think it would help.

I wouldn't mind making a national DMV to ensure driving standards between states.

I hate it when out of towners come up here and don't know how to parallel park because they've lived in the suburbs their whole life. I was just talking to my roommate about this, and apparantly, when you're taking your road test in PA, you get three tries to parallel park. three tries? wtf is that!? I failed just because I was 18" from the curb.

That's a completely different and separate legislative issue. Your post was nothing but a hackneyed effort to shoehorn anti-Democrat sentiments into a discussion in which they had no relevance. You added heat but no light to this issue.

I think we should - I've been a military dependant all my life, so the idea doesn't bother me one bit.

make sure it has a unique chip in it, and make card readers easily available to anyone who would need to be able to verify the ID cards.

I think the fact that voter fraud is essential to the democratic party is relevant here...

BTW, I am joking.. well, somewhat.. In the last Presidential election our local news caught New York democratic operatives giving cigarettes to homeless people for them to vote..

Hi,

The proposed introduction of National ID cards is a hot topic here in the UK right now. I oppose it on many levels from the sheer technological problems, through to cost and the fact that an ID card would not achieve what it sets out to do (in the government's eyes). I do believe I read something about the Madrid bombers having Spanish ID cards. So much for "helping prevent terrorism" then. More like "Helping us achieve a false sense of (expensive) security".

I hope ID cards never see the light of day. I am a member of Liberty for this very reason. They have some good articles if you need more background.

Cheers,

Andy
