Plus, if someone "steals" the list, so what? What're they gonna do with it, sell it to some company that's looking to violate the law with EVERY SINGLE call they make, so they can be sure they'll be fined?

Its completely irrevelant...these are only 10-digit numbers folks. They aren't credit cards with personal information attached.

I signed up the phone numbers of my elderly relatives. I get calls from telemarketers that are merely annoying, but the elderly get calls from telemarketers who actively try to scam them out of their savings.

No, they're looking to MAKE sales, a list of people already opposed to marketing would be a more appropriate "don't bother to spam" list. Hacking the gov is in itself risky, illegal, while apparently the spammers have no problem generating email lists using legal methods, else we wouldn't be overrun with spam already.

BTW, the turnaround time to receive the Confirmation Email has dropped quite a bit, only took a few mintues this time to receive it instead of the 33 hours that elapsed the first time.

Legally they have to take you off. So now I never get any calls from any of them.

when i worked at a telemarketing place, (not really telemarketing, just taking surveys for the Gallup Poll) if people were rude and asked to be taken off the "list" most people wouldnt take them off the list, nothing ever happened to them either

If they're running illegal scams, how much do you think they'll be deterred from making illegal telemarketing calls?

Saw This article this morning about a man who called back 100 times to get his name off a telemarketer's list. Kinda funny, though it's too bad he had to do it in the first place.
