I signed up early this morning but haven't gotten the email necessary to complete the process yet. I would guess that they are VERY busy. I just hope that they get the emails out before 72hrs passes or you have to start over.

I tried to register on the website but it keeps on saying "The page cannot be displayed".
Many people must be trying to access it I guess, will try it later.

My question is this:

Supposedly charities are exempt from this list. Does that mean charities and the telemarketing people they hire to do their fundraising? Because that's a significant number. Most of the outfits only provide a small percentage of the "donations" to the actual charity; their "overhead" expenses eat up most of the money raised. I don't wanna be bothered by some flack who's huckstering for the Diseased Widows and Orphaned Children of Police Officers Slain In The Line Of Duty.

"Although callers soliciting charitable contributions do not have to search the national registry, a for-profit telemarketer calling on behalf of a charitable organization must honor your request to be on its do not call list."

That's easy, just reply to all the spam you get now and tell them you want to unsubscribe. They should comply immediately.

I kept at it until I could register. They send an email for verification, but 2 hours since registering and I have not gotten the email.

BTW, this only covers calls from out of state. If your state doesn't have a DNC list of itself, you can still receive calls from in-state vendors.

No longer true thankfully. The FCC has agreed to participate with the registry as well, and they have jurisdiction over intrastate communications.

There's a poll on CNN right now asking whether or not you would sign up for the Do Not Call list. Last I checked 92% of people said they would.

Bottom line: Telemarketers are getting theirs soon.

I must say that since New York enacted it's state law we have had almost no telemarketers call. I actually do not remember the last time a telemarketer called me. I think a lot of local business that did it have taken the hint and just stopped even having telemarketing departments. This works, now on to "do not email list."

They have, as of 2:30, 635,000 confirmed registrations! I hope they know what they are getting into. I don't know anyone that isn't going to sign up for this. I hope their system can handle all the requests. I have been trying on and off since 11:00am to get in with no luck. I guess I keep trying...

I got in, but have yet to get the verification emails. Now onto the no door-to-door salesmen lists, I hate those guys. Anyone know where to get a good No Soliciting sign?

Maybe this is just a silly thought, but would it be better to register after October 1st? You're just putting your phone number in the hands of the telemarketers right now...kinda like unsubscribing from a spammer.

Man finally got through. News just now said the site was getting 1000 hits per Second. Jeez.
