That is such crap! How is it disrespectful to sing the song with soul. She sang it the way she sings every song. Her adding her own stuff, notice she didn't change the words, doesn't mean she didn't sing it with pride.

: ) Amanda
You restated my point, thank you. She sang the song like she sings every one of HER songs. The Star Spangled Banner has notes and tempo as written. That is what should be sung, not a modified version to fit a singers style. This isn't anti-Beyonce, this is a rant about how many singers take the opportunity to "show off" rather than sing this song like it was written. I am sure that someone will come out at a sporting event rapping this song soon (if it hasn't happened already).
The Star Spangled Banner is NOT A SONG! It is a poem that was set to music many years after it was written. In fact, the music to which it is set is a German drinking song (though most people are familiar with the British drinking song using the same melody). Francis Scott Key did not compose the music, nor did he choose the music.

Heh. Can't believe this thing is still going on. Oh, and I kinda think it deflates your complaining about me belittling you when you call me immature. But hey, from seeing you post in this thread, your opinion of me or pretty much anything means jack squat.

You continue to think everyone's out for themselves and all these artists are "showboating"; that's your perogative and part of what makes this country great.

Cap all the letters you want. Fact is that the National Anthem entitled "The Star Spangled Banner" isn't a poem open for interpretation. The Anthem is a published and recognized song that should be treated as more than just a song or a poem to words that you can interpret how you want.
Take your jack-boots and go home.

Quote from link: "Francis Scott Key first published his impressions of the Fort McHenry victory as a broadside poem, with a note that it should be sung to the popular British melody "To Anacreon in Heaven."

I think patriotism is a very personal thing. People should make it mean something, even if it upsets idiots.

Beyonce actually has a voice, she is also a very beautiful young woman who unlike several others there actually managed to carry herself with dignity and class.

What does that song or how one sings it have to do with pride in the US? And how do you know she was not expressing her pride in the US? Is it even remotely possible that someone can express their national pride in a different manner than you do?
