Its hard to even joke about someone who has been through something like that. But the new face kind of reminds of what Arnold Schwarzenegger looked like when he dressed up as a woman in Total Recall to pass through moonport security. "I have a big surprise!"

In January, she was able to eat pizza, chicken and hamburgers for the first time in years. She loves to have cookies with a cup of coffee, Siemionow said.

Great. She finally gets to eat food, and that is what she goes for.

Its pretty cool that they were able to graft on so much... I hope there are a few more procedures to go, because the face they gave her doesn't fit.

She survived a shotgun blast to the face?!

Rock Salt?

Very few here will get that.

It would have to be super close for rock salt to do that, I have played around with rock salt loads and it is not very destructive at all.

I vaguely recall the french transplant recipient looking a lot less distorted.

That's just all fail. Dude should be away for life. She's lucky dude was so full of fail though.

This is a definite improvement and she should have no problem wandering around in public with not much to worry about.

Culp?s husband, Thomas, shot her in 2004, then turned the gun on himself. He went to prison for seven years.

How did they both survive? epic fail.

on a serious note though, good for her and the donor.

Pretty impressive surgery, I'm happy for her.

it was attempted murder, not murder. lower sentence. probably also depended on his mental health, since he turned it on himself as well. not saying it was right or justified, just my assumption of why it was only 7 years.

and cool beens to her, thats gotta be a huge uplifter for her.

rock salt is more for the sting effect than it is for physical damage. even tho it will pierce the skin at close range, i doubt it would be deadly in most cases

Dude, I'm sorry, I know I'm not accepting a face transplant surgery for the wonderful step forward in medicine it is, or whatever, but she still looks pretty freakish. They changed her from having a chewed up looking face to have a gigantic bloated macy's day balloon face.

I know, I know, they'll be able to do further surgeries to remove the extra skin (probably anyway) I'm just saying right now she looks super weird still. She said her old face scared kids, but this one will too.

She went from monster to super weird. That's a vast improvement. With additional surgeries she might get bumped up to just sorta weird looking.

can you actually shoot yourself in the head with a shotgun? I thought they were longer than that.
