You must have missed that day in high school when the told us to grow the fuck up and switch to bratwurst and kielbasa since we were almost adults. :D

If you're going to eat lips and assholes you may as well go with cheap stuff.

I heard a stat last month every hot dog takes 30 seconds off your life. My response was shouldn't Joey Chestnut be dead right now?

Another tasty option that's local for me in CT .... NOT all-beef! (their all-beef dogs are good too)

Sausage and hot dogs and all sorts of processed meats=nasty mixture of what-the-fuck made edible by sodium compounds, ketchup, and white bread.

If you can't recognize the deliciousness that is a nice, delicious andouille, I'm sorry to hear that you've elected to waste your time on this planet.

But not that sorry.

Hot dogs can fuck right off though, I'm with you there.

I love cooking with andouille aka jambalaya. I like spicy food but found it too hot to eat plain. I chopped it up in an omelet a few times. Also made red beans and rice. I only buy it for a project.

Clearly you haven't had a good German sausage!

Any nitrates or nitrites in the process? With my family's history of colon cancer, asking is basically obligatory.

Being an Asian living in an Anglo-bastard country, of course I haven't eaten authentic French or German. But even Chinese sausage is mostly made tasty via the salty sodium compounds.

I don't really eat hot dogs anymore except for the occasional Chicago style dog, sausages just have so much more flavor. Bratwurst, Italian, Polish are all way better than any hot dog imo. I wish more places sold different German varieties, currywurst is pretty awesome and seemed to be all over in Germany but I've never seen it in the US. Went to Germany towards the end of 2019, ate my fair share of sausages on that trip.

Same here but nothing to do with the taste .... no matter how "disgust-O-licious", nearly all sausage is extremely unhealthy. *(hot dogs are a variety of sausage)

Of course so is bacon! ;)

Contingent on whether it's the standard nitrite and nitrate preserved type or the "uncured".

The saturated fat threat is only an issue because Americans enjoy a simple starch, and sweets, and coffee along with the bacon. Dump the pancakes, waffles, syrup and cereal. Such foods cause consumption in excess.

I'm of the opinion the fat consumption should be in the proportions similar to breast milk. 1:1 between saturateds and monounsaturateds with some poly on the side. This makes the cell have the proper mix of properties. Saturated gives ridgity and strength while the unsaturates provide flexibility.

And the vegetable-derived trans fats can go to fucking hell.

"Uncured", "organic" and other assorted fancy buzz-words do very little to make mass-quantities of salt and saturated fat healthy!

;)

"Opinions" are well and good but I'm going to be going with the proven science which unfailingly shows BOTH those things are BAD for you. This is also what my MD tells me and nothing personal but I'll take his opinion over yours!

Hot dogs are like potato chips or candy far as I'm concerned ... if they don't taste GREAT to you, then there is zero point in eating them at all.

I was under the impression salt is mostly bad for you if you're one of those unfortunates whom it's bad for (which isn't everyone)

As far as I'm concerned, the sodium ions will get removed via the kidneys anyway.
Sat. Fat is partially excessive fear-mongering for the maladjusted eater.

The body will manufacture saturated fats if there is a deficiency anyway. The best solution then, is to eat non-inflammatory foods.

The biggest concern for myself is eating perio-friendly foods and bacon fits the criteria. I usually don't go more than 3 strips in a day since I do not consume the "accessories" that typically go with it. Maybe 6 tops if I'm stressed out

Meat is actually extremely tiresome for me if I consume it in excess.

Two places up here in Northern NJ make the best hot dogs. Deep fried dogs of goodness. I'm sure many places have their version of a deep fried dog with options. I know the Rutt's Hut dog is a pork and beef blend, saw an interview with one of the owners. The place Hiram's was one of Bourdain's go to spots and was on one of his shows. I kinda think the ripper dog at Rutt's Hut is better.

Indeed, nobody can claim that title!

Rutt's is a damn good dog. I've had both. Rutt's more, Hiram's less. I do think Rutt's is better but I've only tried Hiram's during Covid, so that may have affected their overall schtick.

Fuck I gotta go to Rutt's. It's like 15 min away too.

That should be a bumper sticker. Fuck I gotta go to Rutt's.

You should try a Kayem or Hebrew National hot dog. Upgrade from Nathan's to something higher quality!
