Every July 4, the eyes of the world focus on Coney Island, NY, for the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest.

The holiday event, which is open to the public and which is sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive eating, takes place at Nathan's Famous on the corner of Surf and Stillwell avenues in Coney Island, Brooklyn.

With an expected audience of 50,000 every year, those seeking good viewing are advised to arrive before 11 am. (For more information, call the IFOCE at (212) 627-5766.)

The Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest has been held at Nathan's Famous on the corner of Surf and Stillwell avenues in Coney Island each year since 1916

At noon each July 4th, a group of 20 steely-eyed individuals line up behind a 40-foot table to begin the 12-minute contest. These competitors, known in the sport of competitive eating as "gurgitators", may not appear athletic to the untrained eye. However, they are among the finest athletes - with the quickest jaws! - in the world.

So.. who's gonna take the Mustard Belt?

Joey Chestnut of San Jose, California, is the latest champion to win the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest, downing 54 dogs and buns in a matter of minutes to take the 2010 Mustard Belt. It was Chestnut's fourth consecutive win in recent years.

Nah, screw Nathan's for requiring a contract for an eating contest.

Kobi is protesting because the ICEF won't allow its "athletes" to compete in non-sanctioned events.

It would be as if MLB won't allow Ball Players to play in pick-up games in the local ballfield.

There's a way to protest... but raising hell like Kobi has is the wrong way.

Actually it would be more like MLB not allowing its ballplayers to play in Japan, Cuba, the unaffiliated minors, etc. on days off during the MLB schedule or the NFL not
allowing players to play in Canada or for the UFL or arena league, etc.

Nathan's is an ICEF competition. The ICEF doesn't allow 'moonlighting'. Kobayashi can accept that and compete at Nathan's or he can't accept it and not compete. He's being childish and petulant and has no credibility, especially after getting arrested last year and withdrawing for "jaw" (read: contract) issues the year before.

well, that was completely disgusting D:

i'll support kobayashi's position against the icef. of course they have the right to protect their value, but i really question the amount of damage that can be done.

The 2nd place guy standing next to Joey Chestnut was friggin disgusting to watch. It looked like bits of hot dog were flying out of his mouth. Ugh.

who cares?

Chicago Dog >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> **

and damn, that chick must have a lot of practice putting wieners in her mouth.

Chesnut wins again with 62 dogs.. amazing. He looked like he was gonna explode. I hope the toilets can handle it all.

I saw this earlier today. What a mess that some of the competitors made with the hotdogs and buns.

<<,--- refers to have pleasure activities such as eating to be done slowly and enjoyable, not goring down.
