🙁

I really enjoyed her movies. 🙁

really curious how she fell... she must have somehow tried to use her head to protect the rest of her body from a fall or something.

Somebody had to say it...

She definitely was a hottie. Poor Liam, I can't imagine what must be going through his head right now 🙁

Sad.

I saw Liam Neeson, Natasha Richardson, Aidan Quinn, his wife, and their children a few years ago at the Big Apple Circus. The only reason why I noticed them was because Liam Neeson was so big. He was a head taller than everyone else. They all looked happy.

I just read his Wiki page, says he's gonna play Abe Lincoln in an upcoming Spielberg flick.

At least she probably didn't even realize what happened(besides the sudden headache). I mean sure she fell but from the sounds of it, she had either an epidural or subdural hematoma and with both of those, without treatment you either die or end up in a nursing home the rest of your life.

RIP

What's the flick called, Lincoln Wiped at Opera?

Don't read too much into it. It could happen to anybody, especially somebody new. If you have ever been on the slopes you'd know some places are harder than concrete (ice). Just imagine somebody falling backwards from their skis on ice.

Very sad accident and yet another reason to wear a helmet, I won't go without one.

looks like you're right....

by the time you feel something wrong, it might be too late with the swelling that cause permanent damage.

Its more that the blood bleeding into your brain compresses your brain, and then the swelling starts...its like a chain reaction type thing, I did neuro ICU for almost 6 months as an RN...seen these kinda injuries.

So how would you know when you hit your head vs say a concussion?

You don't. A concussion is a very minor subdural shock. The hematoma is what makes it deadly. I'm not a doctor but for others reading ANY head injury needs immediate observation. Vomiting, dizzyness, sleepyness, any change in behaviors, etc.

Sorry to hijack, but head injurys are serious.

They couldn't drill a hole into her skull to relieve the pressure?

Usually with subdurals they will either observe it and do nothing if its small, if it's large enough to begin changing the persons mood/mental status etc then they either drill burr holes OR more likely open a skull flap and drain the blood/remove the clot.

If its a epidural IMMEDIATE surgery is the only fix, otherwise it is extremely dangerous and often fatal(like 1 out of 4 will die without immediate surgery)

It sounds to me from reading the press stories that she had an epidural hemorrhage. And with a bleed like that you need to be near a hospital that has a good neurosurgeon/neuro ICU. Thats the thing, without treatment these things do kill you and they kill you quick.

Yes, people in this thread have been talking about that for the last two hours. It's a shame to see her die after seemingly being ok immediately after the accident.

To me, seeing that she passed away was a welcome relief than her being permanently brain dead for the rest of her life. may she rest in peace 🙁

Agreed.

Probably the worst concussion I ever experienced was on a ski slope. I was going over moguls and the repeated bumpiness knocked me off balance. As a result of that I became disoriented and wasn't able to control the way I fell. I hit my head on an icy mogul while falling backwards. Next thing I remember was the "piiiing" of my head hitting the ice. I didn't get fully knocked out but I had no idea where I was for a second or two and I had the dry heaves (almost puking) for a while after that. For the rest of the day I stayed in the lodge and had no desire to go back out on the slopes. It took a good day or two before I felt like I was back to normal.
