Physically, she's 5'2''/3'' at most, got a manly facial structure, and brown eyes, lacking all the major star qualities.
Acting wise, I try to avoid her movies at all costs after seeing her couple of releases at the turn of the century. Watching her on Actor's Studio, she seems deeply tormented. Watching her o nstar wars, she lacked all interest in being a sci-fi chick. She acted best in that movie...when she was in that casket. She is an Oscar winner is she not? The thing about that is, you hide behind a great director, you get recognized and overated no matter what.
She is constantly on the sexiest women's list, even though she is the prudest girl in hollywood. Making maybe one sexual film (which again, I avoided).




She fits in the Selma Blair category, except I love that Selma.

yes, she's not super beautiful (ok, this one's subjective)

but man oh man, you can see her nipples!
 
I think she's cute. Most of her recent films are pretty bad (read - star wars 1-3).

I've heard good things about Closer, but that might just be because she plays a stripper . . . .

She was the little girl in "The Proffessional" which was a kickass movie. the european version ("Leon") was better (had some extra scenes that were pretty cool - where Leon starts taking her on hits to teach her . . . )
 
She's attractive, very intelligent, doesn't *appear* to be obnoxious/typical Hollywood type.
She has many ideal qualities as a person from what she seems like and she's attractive/cute. That = win.
 
Dude, somehow she looks cute with a shaved head, IMO, and isnt the average slutty looking movie-pop star.

But then again I could just be a sick fvcked up bastid who likes bald chicks...

She went to Harvard...lol. They bend over backwards for celebs. Besides what phony major did she study? Psych? lol. Granted, she is smarter than most celebs.

This is a bad thing? I find it a refreshing change from the vast amount of skanks in Hollywood and the USA, in general.

 
Never judge a person's acting ability on a Star Wars performance. 'I saw Christopher Lee in this Star Wars movie and he sucks!'

I think the only other Portman movie I've bothered to watch is 'Leon' and you can't really compare that to anything she might do today.
 
The reason people like her, is she's the antithesis to hollywood stars like paris hilton (ex), even though I find paris to be quite attractive as well, in a completely different way.
