NAT questions

I have my router set to NAT: OPEN in the advance settings..

however now when i go play black ops the ingame info says my NAT is strict...

How do I fix this?

If this is PS3, this is a pretty common problem with Black Ops. Treyarch released a hotfix last night but it apparently hasn't solved the problem for all.

Best thing to do is probably to manually assign a static ip to to your PS3 and put it in the DMZ in your router.

I did that anyways when I set my PS3 last night after seeing all the different port forwarding requirements for different games. Just seemed easier to throw it in the DMZ.

Yeah this is PS3.. forgot to mention that.

not to familer with DMZ stuff.. Ill have to look into that when I get home

Thanks..

UPnP is supposed to help remedy the situation as well, if your router supports it. I think that setting will dynamically open and close ports for you based on what your application needs, but maybe I'm wrong on that. I've personally never been able to enable UPnP and it fix my console NAT problems, but that's always the first thing that's recommended.

Also, since you're on the PS3, remember that both a Type 1 and Type 2 NAT are supposed to be OK. Type 3 is the strict. These types can be found by doing a quick network test from the XMB.

i have upnp turned on.. ive never had issues before.. so i believe it just has to be black ops...

when i go to do a connection test from the dash it says thats type 2 which is fine.. the issue comes from when i connect to the black ops servers (i guess its their servers) then all of a sudden i am NAT STRICT.. i think its come from the new patch but i cannot confirm.. will any games on the XBOX tell me what my NAT is.... I think REACH does but i cannt confirm at work..

ill go home and try have the xbox with a game and ps3 with blops at the same.. im pretty sure xbox will be open and blops will be strict..

but ill have to test it out tonight.
