I just got Verizion FIOS today(they goofed and only got 5mbps/2mbps..but that will be fixed to 15/2)

Anyway, I was using Roadrunner on 5mbps/384mbps(600kb/sec down/40kb upload)...using Azureus I had no NAT errors and was able to get a green smiley face indicating direct/remote connections for d/l connections

My cable was connected to Netgear WGR614v5 54g router
I set my connection to fixed IP address in network connections with port forwarding ...and no issues..I could hit d/l speeds of 250kb on good torrent(600kb from good servers on the net)..always got a green smiley on my torrents

with FIOS...same setup
FIOS broadband modem/router is connected to my Netgear router
port forwarding is exactly the same, same fixed ip address but I get a NAT error and never see a nice green smiley
the fastest I have seen on d/l was 90kb for a few sec nothing sustained but my upload is 3x times what I was getting on RR

according to Azureus a NAT error effects d/ls not u/ls....
I use a non 6xxx for port forwarding..I use 49xxx as recommended to avoid blacklisting

For example I have a torrent that has swarm speed of 1.0M/sec...my d/l speed on FIOS is 80kb/sec...on RR I would often get 150-250kb/sec on a torrent like this

it seems my d/l speeds are not anywhere I would expect.

any ideas???

Quick suggestion, just kinda stumbled on your post from one of my searches. If you have a wgr614 version 5 as you say, take the router verizon gave you and put it on the side. Hook the netgear directly to the ethernet cable from verizon. Put in your PPOE information in the netgear. All should be fine. I'm currently using my Netgear WGR614 Version 5, with FIOS package 30Mbps Down / 5Mbps Up. It works beautifully. (I dont use bit torrent much) But I do download alot. I've had consistant download speeds of 29 to 32 Mbps and upload of 4.5 to 5.2 Mbps.

Your Netgear router is far more capable then anyone gives it credit for. Before anyone says verizon gave you the Dlink for a reason, yea they did. Specifically because they wanted to avoid people's routers not being able to handle the faster speeds. Hence they would get complaints. Now not all consumer routers can handle the higher speed esp. with PPOE overhead, but this one works like a champ.

Good Luck

well I figured out the issue..I did not enter PPOE info..the idiots at verizon piggy backed my Netgear directly to the D-Link router....this is a performance killer

I got the idea to below on my own....

I have a wired Dlink 604 for in my closet where my home network Cat5e lines and then hooked up my WGR614 V5 to ethernet jack and set it up as AP...and hooked my desktop to it

works fine but I am trading it for DI 624 ....

I have used 3-4 netgear routers and love them....easiest setup in the world

FYI:in my closet there is a cut out in the wall for network and cable stuff by using a non wirelss router here I can close over the opening in the wall with a metal cover with no wires out..so then getting a second wireless router and making it an AP and hooking my desktop everything works sweet
