Nascar doesn't use unleaded gas?

I was glancing through ESPN.com and found this article. It shocks, and horrifies me, that the government hasn't forced them to switch. Leaded gas is terrible for the environment and for all the people that watch NASCAR events.

The worst thing is NASCAR doesn't get it.
"Without being able to keep the values lubed, the engines don't work as well and there would be continual problems," Posten said. "We just have not been able to find a solution."

This shouldn't be optional. It shouldn't matter that they would have problems, it's such an unnecessary health risk.

Ugh. I"m disgusted with NASCAR.

This is news? I'm pretty sure it's been common knowledge for most people. Performance cars need the leaded fuel, simple as that.

Perhaps it will change as Hydrogen technology evolves. Then racecar teams won't need leaded fuel, just a steady supply of mops :)

I was disgusted with NASCAR way before this. What do I get? For one thing, NASCAR's rules are very anti-competitive, and just plain backward, like no fuel injection.

Nascar is even worse than baseball. With all honesty I judge a person as dumber than I otherwise would if they consider themelves a fan of it.

Oh give me a damn break. Everything is bad for the environment. One race a week won't hurt anything. I don't even like NASCAR at all and I still don't have a problem with it.

Dude, how much damage do you think the handful of cars there does to the atmosphere?

The various fumes coming from the stands are probably more harmful.

Frickin' moron. You wonder why the righties think we're all stupid.

Why should they ? Unleaded gas would cripple the performance of the engine.
That little bit of TetraEthyl Lead helps lube the valves, and assist in keeping the valve crown cool.

NHRA doesn't use unleaded fuel in the Drags either.
Matter of fact, you've never lived until you've walked down wind of where a Top Fuel Dragster or Funny Car
is warming up in the pits, Nitro-Methane does wonders for making a car run fast - or explode trying to.

We probably spill more gas every day than nascar uses in a year:D

so i guess someone needs to get 76 gasoline who had ads running at one time that their gas was used in nascar cars..

obviously not the same gas, because its leaded.. not unleaded.

Totally irrelevant.

Sure it is. If he doesn't like it and doesn't want to support them then he SHOULDN'T WATCH IT.

Oh, i don't watch it. I would be even more upset if i lived near one of those tracks.

Seriously, leaded gas is terrible for everybody who comes in contact with it. And NASCAR sacrifices people's health so we can watch them drive around in circles? Something is really messed up there.

Find something more important to be outraged about. Leaded gas is not that big a deal. Just like leaded paint, leaded pencils, etc. Sure lead exposure can cause harm in huge amounts but the amount being put out by a race is minimal. Think about this. If leaded gas is so very bad then why aren't race car drivers dropping dead left and right from cancer?

 We are more selective than you give us credit for. We pick and choose who we think is stupid! All liberals don't make that grade, some are damned bright. ;)

Thanks. I care about plenty of other things a lot more than NASCAR, but this shocked me just because it is such a no-brainer easy thing to do.
