That whole "we're just gonna lift this bad boy here...", vibe going on... "swing it over yonder" (imagining someone pointing at the wall), "no, on the other side of that."
"wai.. wut."

wait... attention span is dead. :hmm:

The video:

NUTS!

Holy crap, that building must be ginormous!!!!

Apparently, it's the world's 4th largest building by volume!

Photos apparently do not convey the sheer enormity of that building.

You can get an idea by looking at known-size objects on the ground and at other multi-story buildings, but in the barren landscape that is Kennedy Space Center, there is little around for apt size comparisons.

Amazing video. Very interesting how they just lift the shuttle up in mid air and then move it to the other side to attach it to the external tank and SRB's.

The way they move it about to and fro, it's like it's just a paperweight, and they make it look so effortless. Just insane!
Not to forget just how massive the equipment itself even is. The size and mass of that thing, and the ways they figured out how do everything efficiently... it's maddening.

I just learned a new fact recently, after narrowing down my Russian presentation (in Russian) to their space program from the dawn of the space race to modern day.
I knew they made a shuttle, one that looked too-obviously like a pure copy. But I didn't know they only made 1, and they basically abandoned the shuttle concept after that little venture. I think they only did unmanned flights too. So, besides the Russians, we are the only one with a shuttle even, so the fact that, well, our way is essentially the only way, it is crazy seeing the methods behind the madness.

Its a damn shame Obama won't continue the space shuttle program. Its more important we bail out more banks and more car companies. We don't have a viable alternative for some time and we will depend on the Russians. Disgusting.

Oh no, the sky is falling....who cares.

In any case, the shuttle stuff is still kind of nifty, even if it is rather expensive.

:D
That Vehicle Assembly Building has a small door for the vertical tail section.
And I love the little reflective orange triangle on the back of the shuttle's flatbed.

"Good thing that was there, I would've crashed right into it!"

The shuttle is effectively obsolete tech anyways. The problem is we have nothing to replace it and will have to rely on the Russians to ferry our guys back and forth to the Int Space Station.

Of course we'll still be putting commercial sats into orbit with the old standby boosters. Space exploration is effectively dead for the US for the immediate future.:(

That crane shit is crazy!
Anyone else look at the bottom of the shuttle and be like no way i'd want to fly in that thing. Haha it's so beat up.

Yeah, it got too damn expensive. It need to go private to get the costs down.
