Exactly. It's not like the teacher somehow caused the accident, and that they haven't had any missions since then.

I'm more worried about them repeating the disaster for the same reasons as before. Sure, Nasa has the best safety record of any space agency in the world. What scares me is that what caused the first disaster might repeat itself for the same reasons. Political. When politicians get involved, all kinds of things go wrong.

I think it's great they are sending teachers to space. For that matter, they should also send more scientists there. Space-missions are still mostly for the astronauts. what is the job of a astronaut? Simply put: to fly a spacecraft. That would be more or less same if passenger-jets only had the crew onboard and no passengers. What's the point in that? They should send more scientists to space, so they could "do science" up there, instead of just sending astronauts there.

I'm having problems putting my thought in to words. Am I making any sense here 😱?

If I'm not mistaken, a large percentage of astronauts are from a scientific, rather than military flight pilot, background these days.

Are you sure the teacher wasn't there when they assembled the solid rocket booster? Maybe she was eating an apple and spit a seed out which lodged itself between the o-ring and the booster segment. Which could have caused a void allowing the gases to escape.

The again maybe she had nothing to do with it. 😀

MSNBC has an article about Nasa restarting the Astronaut teacher program again. Uh, I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not. Didn't we blow up one last time around in 1986 because of beurocratic ignorance and managerial incompetence at Nasa? I'm holding my opinion of this till I see what happens. It scares me because I'm afraid we'll end up seeing a repeat of Challenger if we're not careful.

Since NASA got into the space launch there have been 2 incidents that people paid the ultimate price for exploration with their lives. In both cases NASA learned everything they could and took steps to prevent future occurances. I personally think they have a hell of a good record when the total number of manned space flights they have launched is considered.
