NAS Hard Drives

I have a Synology DS214. I assembled the unit in August of last year with two WD Red 3TB drives. The first one died about two weeks ago and the second died again today. The NAS is an an entertainment center with a completely open back and it's connected to a UPS. I'm really at a loss. Chalk it up to back luck and use the replacements I'll be getting or move to another drive?

stop buying wd drives.

i run toshibas and seagates and have had a 6 percent failure rate over 2 years.

35 drives 2 failed 1 doa and one of natural causes.

I've had over 2 dozen wd drives over the years and a 0% failure rate.

I say this to point out how insignificant both of our sample sizes are really though.

Maybe check out storage review to see how reliability is in a larger sample

atleast the wd warranty is good, just go to their website and they should replace them both
hopefully you didn't lose everything ...

I have 10 wd red 4tb drives in my server. All running smoothly so far.... knock on wood. Getting ready to add 5 more this month.

Oh yeah, lost everything. I keep my family photos and stuff on a third external drive as another backup. Currently looking for a cloud host for an off site backup. Got an RMA setup for one, not 100% sure on the second yet.
