Can someone explain to me two things here..

1) What is ANBU anway?

2) From a few episodes ago what is up with those symbols that apeared on Sasuke's body when he burnt himself out?

Sasuke was bit by Orochimaru, creating a connection with him. Kakashi supposedly had sealed it within Sasuke, but somehow it managed to come out during the Gaara Sasuke fight. It allows him to draw on Orochimarus power, but makes him a very unstable fighter.

Nope, it doesn't allow him to draw on Orochimaru's power it allows him to draw on his own power by damaging his body.

I don't think Kurenai is ANBU level yet... I mean, she got caught in her own genjutsu!
 
I missed most of that. I started watching then that Garra fight was just starting up. Ochimaru used to be just a regular guy, right? Then he went nuts and shed his body for the young girl, or something, correct?
 
You might want to see all the episodes and possibly read all the manga if you're into that..

You are missing a ton of info if you've just started watching... when it was Sasuke vs Gaara in the chunnin finals.
